12 and 10 year old sisters win big at MTN children special edition

The popular programme, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is living up to a wholesome family game show it has been known to be. Recently, it aired two episodes of the Children Special in which two siblings (one in the younger category and the other in the upper cadre) won N500,000 and N1 million in their respective episodes. We spoke with both of them and their father…

‘I was nervous’ -OMIETE OWANGA, elder sister (12)

How did you get on the show?

I have been watching the show on TV for about five years. I sent the code CS (Children’s Special) to 132 from my daddy’s phone. I was asked how many oceans are there in the world and I answered five.

How did you feel on the hot seat?

I was nervous when I first got on the hot seat and was glad when I won the N500,000 for my school fees. I didn’t even think I would emerge winner of the fastest fingers first round. I was very happy when my name was called. I was happy to see Uncle Frank.

My name is Omiete Owanga, I am 12. A primary six student of Queenfield Schools, Kaduna and I am from Rivers state. I am the first born, I have two siblings- Nimi and Onate. I want to be a medical doctor because I admire female medical doctors.

Why do you like Who Wants to be A Millionaire?

I like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire because it is a nice show. My advice to my fellow pupils is to read hard, so they can come here to win a good amount of money for their education.

‘I felt so happy’ -NIMI OWANGA (younger sister)

My name is Nimi Owanga. I am 10. The name of my school is Queensfield Schools. I come from Rivers state but I live in Kaduna state.

How did you get on the show?

I sent the code CS (Children’s Special) to 132 myself when I saw the advert on TV. I was asked how many oceans are there in the world and I answered five.

How did you feel on the hot seat?

I felt so happy when I was on the hot seat. I was scared I would drop to N250,000. I felt happy when my sister won first and I believed I was going to get on the hot seat and win big too. I won N1m and I feel really happy about it. I want to say thank you to MTN and Ultima Studios.

‘I feel so excited’ – MR PAUL OWANGA (father)

Tell us yourself, Sir?

My name is Paul Owanga, a public servant. I am the father of Omiete and Nimi Owanga, who just won N500,000 and N1 million

respectively on the hot seat.

How do you feel seeing your two girls won so much?

Honestly, I feel so excited. I was with them in the sitting room when the Children Special was advertised. Omiete took my phone while Nimi took her mother’s phone and they sent the text almost immediately. For all of us as a family, we have been watching WWTBAM a little over six years. So, they played almost the same time. When the questions came, they answered. Then we got the calls later that day that, they have both been shortlisted and if they qualify eventually, they would be invited to the studio. Lo and behold! They were called. I said at last I will see Frank, I mean on one on one basis.

How do you feel being here?

In fact, coming here has been enlightening because when you see things people write on social media, you will think it’s not real. But having come here today, I can attest that Ultima Studios and MTN (the sponsors) are doing excellently and it is good to encourage children at this age. When Omiete won N500,000, I was excited and I praised God. I was a bit scared for Nim because the game became tougher as she progressed but God saw her through and she won N1 million in scholarships too.  I am so grateful to God. I am also grateful to MTN and Ultima Studios for a job well done. This is a big relief, I tell you.
