13 Nigerians make Forbes’ Africa’s 50 Richest people, Dangote leads with $21.6bn

For the first time in the four years that Forbes has been tracking Africa’s richest people, Nigeria beats South Africa to the top.

This year, business mogul and chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and 12 other Nigerians make the Forbes list of the 50 richest people in Africa. The 13 NIgerians have a combined fortune of N5.98tr ($36.02bn).

The Nigerians on the list are Aliko Dangote ($21.6bn, N3.58tr) – 1st; Mike Adenuga ($4.6bn, N763.6bn) – 5th; Folorunsho Alakija ($2.5bn, N415bn) – 12th; Theophilus Danjuma ($1.1bn, N182.6bn) – 22nd; Tony Elumelu ($1bn, N166bn) and Orji Uzor Kalu ($1bn, N166bn) – 26th; Femi Otedola ($900m, N149.4bn) – 29th; Jim Ovia ($850m, N141.1bn) – 30th; Abdulsamad Rabiu ($700m, N116.2bn) – 33rd; Mohammed Indimi ($670m, N111.2bn) – 37th; Tunde Folawiyo ($650m, N107.9bn) – 39th; Hakeem Belo-Osagie ($600m, N99.6bn) – 41st and Oba Otudeko ($550m, N91.3bn) – 46th.
