2015: Amosun in fresh lobby of Ogun East, West stakeholders

In a fresh strategic ploy to retain his seat ahead of the 2015 governorship election in Ogun state, ‎Governor Ibikunle Amosun has begun underground work to woo aggrieved people, especially in Ogun East and Ogun West senatorial districts, to his camp.
ENCOMIUM Weekly reliably gathered that though Amosun was not initially disposed to the new move of lobbying known political figures to his side, due to his perceived popularity across the local governments, he later made a detour when he found out that most of his key political associates were not truly close to the grassroots as they painted around town.
Our investigation revealed that the governor would likely pull ‎70 percent of the votes in Ogun Central whenever election comes, but same could not be said of Ogun East and Ogun West senatorial districts.
In Ogun Central which is reputed as Amosun’s political base, it was observed that only key areas in Egbaland benefitted hugely in terms of urban development, while the likes of Ado-Odo, Ota and other densely populated areas had scanty government presence.
Despite these challenges, political observers believed that it will be practically impossible for the governor to lose the loyalty of his people in 2015.
In Ogun East, which comprises Ijebu and Remoland, only Ijebu Ode, Sagamu and lately, Ijebu North, had so far benefitted from the fresh construction works of the governor, while areas like Ijebu East, Ogun Waterside, Ijebu North East, Remo North and Odogbolu local governments have been crying wolves.
Though Amosun was said to have embarked on visible projects in Yewa area, many stakeholders in the zone which has been yearning for a governor of Yewa extraction since the state was created believed that he does not deserve a second term in office.
To worsen the scenario, the council helmsmen, who are closer to the grassroots have equally not been presenting Mr. Governor in good light with the allegation of the deduction in their monthly allocation by the state government.
Our findings equally revealed that most of the LG chairmen performed below expectation since they assumed office over two years ago.
Based on these findings, ENCOMIUM Weekly can reliably inform that Amosun was determined to extend his olive branch to political heavyweights in the two senatorial districts perceived as hostile to his administration as well as former APC members, who left the party in annoyance to form Action Group of Nigeria, headed by Aremo Olusegun Osoba.
An impeccable source told us that efforts of Mr. Governor has been yielding results as some of the aggrieved people have decided to work for his second term bid.
The governor is said not to be losing sleep over his second term bid despite the resolve of the opposition, mainly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop him in 2015‎.
He is said to be banking on the aftermath of the primaries where‎ aggrieved opposition members will possibly defect to the ruling party in the state.
Meanwhile, the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II has thrown his weight behind Amosun’s second term bid as the monarch openly canvassed for votes for the governor.
The monarch, who spoke during the assessment and monitoring tour of Ijebu-Ode by the governor and his team, expressed satisfaction with the giant strides of Amosun. He added that the governor’s exemplary works have so far surpassed those of his predecessors.
Oba Adetona said, “By December this year, I will be 55 years on the throne, all what I am seeing today from the governor is fantastic. I have not witnessed all these in the past and on behalf of all sons and daughters of Ijebuland, we thank you so much and I pray that Almighty Allah will continue to be with you and your household. I get information about how you come day and night to inspect construction works and I know God will continue to strengthen you.
“My people in Ijebu, the governor has done his own, the people of Ijebu should not be ingrates. Your administration has been a peaceful and enjoyable one. When somebody has worked, there must be a reward for him. Amosun has worked for us and we must reward him for all the good works he has been doing, not only in Ijebu, but in the state at large.”
Many Ijebu sons and daughters, who spoke with our correspondent, stated that the governor deserved a second term, promising to work assiduously to ensure victory for the governor in the next governorship election in February 2015.
Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ms Bukunola Onabanjo, and the Ebumawe of Ago Iwoye, Oba Abdul Razaq Adenugba, corroborated the view of Awujale, calling on all the Ijebu to come out en masse to vote for the governor so as to complete the good work he is doing in the state.
“This is a clear fact and Awujale has spoken the minds of Ijebu both at home and diaspora. The governor has been doing his best and we should rally round him for the second term bid so that he will be able to complete the good works he has started,” TESCOM boss said.
In his own view, Oba Adenugba maintained that what the Awujale said is the true reflection of all sons and daughters of Ijebu and when he has spoken, no one dares challenge his authority except God.
“What Awujale said is correct and that is our mind. A right thinking people needs not to be told that the governor still need one more term to complete all the good works he has started, so we should all rally round him for success during the next year poll.”
In his address, the Chairman of Ijebu Ode local government, Hon. Razaq Oluwakemi Daddah, commended the governor on behalf of the good people of Ijebu Ode and solicited for more support for the government to enable it complete the good work.
Daddah explained that the assessment tour is a veritable tool for feedback mechanism needed to forge ahead and manifestation of the present administration’s commitment to carry along all stakeholders in the development of our state.
