2015 shocking scandals

ACCORDING to the Free Dictionary, scandal is a publicized incident that brings about disgrace or offends the moral sensibilities of society.

Certainly, there were many incidents in the country that brought disgrace to some people and offended the moral sensibilities of the country.

We bring to you some of the shocking scandals that rocked the country in 2015.

EX-ALIMOSHO LG CHAIRMAN IN  RITUAL MESS

The first scandal of the year was a video on Youtube showing Hon. Olusola Israel Adekunle, the former Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Council, sitting naked on a black horse holding calabash appeasing some gods not to be arrested by EFCC or any anti-graft agency for any corruption he committed in the council.

Certainly, the former local government council chairman was a victim of fraudsters, who have been using the video to swindle him of huge sum of money when he was chairman of the council.

ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered that the video was posted on Youtube by one Archbishop Samson Mustapha Benjamin, the General Overseer of Resurrection Praise Ministries International, a.k.a Jehovah Sharp Sharp.

GODSDAY ORUBEBE’S DISGRACEFUL OUTBURST AT COLLATION  CENTRE

The disgraceful outburst of Elder Godsday Orubebe, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affair and a member of PDP, during the collation of results of the 2015 presidential poll is one scandal that many Nigerians are not likely to forget in a hurry.

While the collation was going on, Mr. Orubebe seized the microphone and for several minutes, the former minister insisted Prof. Attahiru Jega, the INEC chairman cannot continue with the collation.  He accused the INEC chairman of being biased against the PDP.  All entreaties to Orubebe to release the microphone was to no avail.

When he eventually released the microphone, the INEC chairman said Orubebe belittled himself as a former minister of Federal Republic of Nigeria.  All these were shown live on television.

It was a contrite Orubebe who offered an apology to Nigerians the following day.

DASUKI’S $2.1BILLION ARMS DEAL MESS

Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), former National Security Adviser (NSA) to former President Goodluck Jonathan $2.1 billion arms deal mess has become a soap opera of a sort, that Nigerians now wait with bated breath on a daily basis for new episodes to be added.

The arms deal corruption which was discovered by the Presidential Arms Procurement Probe Panel, has now roped in many prominent Nigerians including Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Attahiru Bafaraw, Alhaji Yuguda, Chief Bode George, Chief Tony Anenih, Dr. Peter Odili and the list seems to be increasing daily.

JOHN  FASHANU AND ABIGAIL IGWE’S DIVORCE MESS

The rollercoaster romance between John Fashanu and Abigail Igwe, which started in 2009, came crashing when the two filed for divorce in 2014.

That they had irreconcilable differences was certainly not the matter.  The matter was that before they went their separate ways, they decided to wash their dirty linens not only in the law court but on the pages of ENCOMIUM Weekly.

There was nothing they did not accuse each other of.  From lesbianism to stealing to threesome and fraud.  It was a salacious tale that came out in three editions of ENCOMIUM Weekly.

FEMI FANI-KAYODE AND YEMISI WADA TIRADE AGAINST EACH OTHER

Mrs. Yemisi Wada is the former wife of Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation.  Before they parted ways many years ago, they sired three girls together.  One of the three girls, Remilekun Temitope Fani-Kayode, got married to Jaiye Kofolaran Randle, on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at a high octane party which had the crème de la crème of Lagos social circle in attendance.

For inexplicable reason, the bride’s father, the one and only loquacious Fani-Kayode was conspicuously missing at the traditional wedding.  All hell was let loose on the internet and some newspapers on why he was missing at his daughter’s wedding. The writer of the tirade even questioned the paternity of Yemisi Wada’s girls and demanded that only DNA test could solve the paternity issue.

From Yemisi Wada’s side (although she denied being the writer) came the sordid past of Femi Fani-Kayode and how he maltreated all his former wives and parents.

This was followed by another tirade on Yemisi Wada’s past, parents, affairs with boys and how she drove away the wife of her present husband.

TOKE MAKINWA TOPSY TURVY MARRIAGE

What do you make of a relationship that lasted 12 years before tying the nuptial knot and just 14 months after taking the marriage vows another woman is pregnant for your ‘darling husband.’

That was exactly what happened between the popular on air personality, Toke Makinwa and her fitness expert husband, Maje Ayida.

Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida got married secretly on January 14, 2014 at Ikoyi Registry, after their off and on relationship that spanned 12 years.  By June 2015, the news was out that one Anita Solomon, Maje Ayida’s former girlfriend was not only pregnant for him but had travelled abroad to deliver the baby.

It is one scandal that Toke Makinwa has been living with since then.  Though, there are signs that Toke and Maje are trying to reconcile after the scandal.

DIEZANI’S MIND-BLOGGING CORRUPTION ALLEGATION

Just about seven months ago, Diezani Alison-Madueke was one of the most powerful women in the world.  Apart from being Nigeria’s most powerful and untouchable Minister of Petroleum, she was also the president of the oil cartel, OPEC.  But today, she is being hounded by her corrupt laden activities as the Minister of Petroleum Resources.

Though the exact amount that was mismanaged by her has not been mentioned, the fact that one of the agencies (NNPC) she supervised while in office is neck deep in the allegations of corruption in the country is enough to nail her.

Her arrest and seizure of £27,000 by National Crime Agency (NCA), in London is an indication that her can of worms will soon be opened.

FASHOLA’S N78M  WEBSITE AND  N139M BOREHOLES

Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashol (SAN), former governor of Lagos State and now Minister of Works, Power and Housing, could deny having children from any other woman apart from his wife, Dame Abimbola Fashola, but he will certainly not be able to convince many Nigerians that he actually spent N78 million to upgrade his website and N139 million to sink two boreholes at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.

POTTY SYSTEM IN OUR HIGHER INSTITUTIONS

What could be more scandalous than students in our higher institutions resorting to the use of potty for their inconveniences because the toilets provided by the school authorities are not hygienic enough to be used by them.

Not only this, their beds are now breeding ground for blood sucking bedbugs!
