5 Creative designers talk about what will be in vogue in 2015: ‘I don’t follow what is in vogue’ -Adebusola Bamisile (Orente Ayaba)

The fashion industry is growing in leaps and bounds, designers are more creative and setting the pace for international audience. ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke with fast-rising designers about the future of fashion designing in Nigeria…

What is in vogue this season?

As for me, there will be cante (reddish wine). I see designers coming out with different designs. Everybody has gone into his workshop to churn out creative designs for the season.

What is your opinion about the fashion industry?

Fashion has taken a different turn in Nigeria. Everybody is looking for how to create his own fabrics. They used to go to the 70’s and 80’s to reinvent styles but things are different now.

What is the future of fashion designing in Nigeria?

Fashion has taken over in Nigeria. Designers have gone international. What we see now is nothing compared to what you will see in the future, if you go into homes now, they are doing all sorts of things with Ankara. People are on their toes working towards versatility. People come to Nigeria from abroad now to get creative ideas they can take back. It is not only in the aspect of cloth, but every other thing.

What are the fashion mistakes that Nigerians make?

I don’t follow what is in vogue, I am a dramatic person. What people think is wrong is what I might feel comfortable wearing. Once you are not going to the extreme, whatever you wear must go with your looks, stature and physique. It is important to have a fashion consultant or a stylist that can tell you what will fit you.

What is your plan for 2015?

I will take my brand to another level. We want to go into retailing. I want people to get the brand anywhere in the world, I want people to identify my designs without the name.
