The mood in Aba-Ngwa, Abia state commercial hub and capital, is obviously joyous and festive.
And it’s understandably so.
For the first time in the history of the state created in 1991, the Ngwa nation is producing a Governor!
Arriving the state this Thursday afternoon- for tomorrow’s inauguration of Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu – I met bands of celebrants who cut across the nine LGs that are of Ngwa origin.
And when you thought the celebration is regional, reports from Abia Central and Abia North confirm Dr Ikpeazu’s acceptance is state- wide and indeed, infectious.
The former university lecturer, one-time Obingwa LG boss, ex DGM, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) and grass-roots politician, would be sworn in Friday, May 29 as Abia’s 4th Executive Governor.
Ikpeazu, 51, succeeds Dr Theodore Ahamefule Orji, Senator- elect (Abia Central) who has served out his two terms.
The new Abia Governor, who hails from Umuobiakwa,Obingwa LGA, is married to Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu. The happy marriage is blessed with children.
