CURVY actress, Anita Joseph was in the news a couple of days back because fraudsters were said to be using her Facebook account to swindle her Ghanaian fans. It was alleged that she was duping people through a movie quiz competition that will earn her fans acting career in Nollywood. ENCOMIUM Weekly had a chat with the actress about this development on Thursday, November 5, 2013.
How did you discover that fraudsters were using your name to defraud people?
I went to Ghana for the Miss Naija Ghana pageant when some of my fans approached me that I was collecting money for a movie quiz competition. They said I was demanding money from people for a movie competition that will earn them acting career in Nollywood. My manager was also called and asked the same question, if I was staging a competition.
What steps have you taken about it?
I have since reported the incident to Facebook operators.
Do you suspect anybody?
I suspect two people who worked for me. One was handling my Facebook account. My instinct once whispered to me that the guy was up to something because he was always talking about my Facebook page and my fans. Another person once told me that he wants to be handling my Facebook page but I refused. I decided to change my password when I was no longer sure of the two of them. I guess, he opened his own Facebook account with my name.
How much has been taken from your fans so far?
They opened about seven accounts. From what I heard, a lot has been taken from innocent people. I cannot put a figure to it now.
What is happening to your career presently?
My career is booming. God is faithful. I am working on a lot of things. Some of the movies will be out soon.
