‘Why I sell sex toys’

Sultry and sexy Yoruba actress, Biodun Okeowo popularly known as Omobutty is one the most talented actresses on the scene right now. With eight movies of her own and having featured in close to fifty of others, Biodun is certainly a face to reckon with in the sector. Actress Biodun Okeowo, a graduate of Communication Arts from the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos joined the Yoruba movie industry about five years ago and has done remarkably well for herself.

In an interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly, the mother of two children opened up on the secret of her successful career, new flick and motherhood…

How would you rate your career over the years?

I thank God for His mercies. I have an ambition, a goal and a dream which I’m still looking forward to but I still thank God for where I started and where I am now. I would not say I am fulfilled but at the same time I would give thanks to God, so it won’t seem as if I’m not grateful.

What has been the challenges so far?

It has been easy and at the same time not easy. If one starts from the right channel, it would surely be easy but if you start from the wrong channel, it would take the grace of God. For me, I would say it is easy. The only challenge I had was coping when I started because being in the movie industry changes like the weather. It is another world on its own. If you are the proud person coming into the movie industry, you have to be submissive, you have to be humble  because it is all about learning the act.

What has been the pains and the gains so far?

The gains cannot be quantified because it’s like counting the blessings of God. This job has fetched me a lot of preferential treatments and has opened doors for me.

What would you say has been the secret behind your success?

God has always been my guide and my mom because without her, I am sure I would not be where I am today. When I started acting, my children were still very young and she took it upon herself to train and do so many things for them for me to be able to go on locations. She has been really supportive.

Have you always dreamt of ‎acting or it came along the line?

Acting for me came in both ways. I have been acting right from my primary school days, and in the church but when I got into the university, my family were against my acting career except for my dad because he was an actor back then. So I decided to study Communication Arts at the Lagos State University. After my university education, I searched for jobs but all proved abortive. Then I remembered my acting skill and dream. That was how it all started for me.

Would you say your father’s acting career influenced your choice?

No. Because when I took my own decision, I had forgotten he was an actor. I remember he sent me to Jide Kosoko who was his friend but I felt reluctant. Although I went to meet Jide Kosoko,  it was inconclusive. I felt I would not be free to express myself.

What inspires your new flick, Victoria’s Beauty?

When I opened my wine shop, I had it at the back of my mind that I was not stopping there because I had the dream of expanding into the fashion and beauty industry. Ever since, I have been pursuing my dream. Over the years, I have been a regular fan of Victoria Secret because I love pink as well as their products. On getting to the United States, I got into their store and my beauty dream began from there. Also, my name being Victoria made it easy for me to come up with the name Victoria’s Beauty and also with the help of my dad.

Can you tell us some of the beauty products available at your store?

I deal with anything that has to do with your total outlook, ranging from makeup products, face and body creams, body enhancements and pads for the less endowed females, sex products, wigs, jewelry, red carpet dresses and much more.

Why the addition of sex products and toys?

I decided to sell sex products because I have found out that these things are in vogue. Also, some women prefer to use these things instead of cheating on their men. I feel it makes you more feminine. I did my market survey and I know that these products are high in demand, so I can never go wrong.

What makes your brand unique from other beauty stores?

I would say the quality of my products. At Victoria’s Beauty, you have the best, original and authentic products because I would not want to do something and soil my name. I got all my products from Dubai and U.S.

How do you think piracy can be curbed?

We have done a lot of things about it but I think what can be the easiest way out is for the government to intervene. We have supported each of them and it’s in their place ‎to find a solution to this problem. We cannot fight piracy alone. I feel strong charges should be placed on whoever engages in such a dubious act in order to teach others a lesson.

How much did Victoria’s Beauty gulp?

I cannot disclose how much has gone into it but it is a multi-million naira project. I got my shop over a year ago even before I travelled to the United States and I have been working on it. It took me six months to start making use of it. I spent a lot and I’m grateful to God.

What was the last movie you produced and what should your fans expect from you?

In 2014, I produced the movie, Ore meaning “friends” and now I am working on two movies but before the year runs out, I would release one of the movies.

How are you enjoying motherhood?

This is something that makes me happy and proud. Anytime I remember I have children, it makes me happy. They make me happy always and when I reincarnate, I would want to be a mother to the same children.
