Adenuga’s support has lifted Ofala– Onitsha Chiefs

The Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr., has been commended for lifting the annual Ofala festival to greater heights.

The council of Onitsha Chiefs made the commendation during the Royal Banquet held in honour of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, at the 2016 Ofala celebration sponsored by the grandmasters of data, Globacom.

Chairman of the Ofala 2016 celebration and Ogene Onira of Onitsha kingdom, Chief  Ngozi Okafor, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs said that the festival’s profile has not only been lifted but that its tourism potentials have also been given a boost through Dr. Adenuga’s magnanimity.  

“I want to say it here that we are here for this royal banquet because of the magnanimity of the Chairman of Globacom, Otunba Mike Adenuga. His magnanimity has raised the standard of the festival. For the past six years, Otunba  Adenuga has hosted the Agbogidi to this type of royal banquet in addition to his support for the festival in so many ways. We are grateful to him for the honour and respect he has for our Obi“, he declared.

Also speaking at the banquet, Igwe Achebe prayed for continuous success and good health for the Glo Chairman. He thanked him “for his love for the people of Onitsha as demonstrated in the last six years through his support for the Ofala Onitsha”. 

Welcoming guests to the banquet, Globacom’s Head of Operations, South-South, Mr. Enekwachi Aja, re-affirmed Globacom’s commitment to the promotion of Nigerian arts and culture.

He stated that the relationship Globacom established with the Onitsha palace in the last six years “has generated for us immeasurable goodwill among the people and also helped make Globacom a household name not only in Onitsha but also in the entire South-East region of the country”.

Earlier, a music concert organised by Globacom and held at the Justice IKpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, as part of the company’s sponsorship deal for the Ofala festival attracted hundreds of excited Onitsha youths who enjoyed every bit of the performance of  Reekado Banks, Ikem Mazeli and Nabania crooner, Flavour.

A beauty pageant was also held to crown Miss Ofala 2016 and Odita Joy Ekene of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka,who came first. She won a cash prize of N100,000, while a student of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Etukokwu Ifeoma Vivian, came second and got N75,000. Iwenofu Precious Chizoba, a 200 level Accounting student of the National Open University, came third and won a cash prize of N50,000.
