Africa Magic Awards extravaganza

– the best dresses, the winners and the flops

The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Expo Hall, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, attracted a large number of who-is-who in the entertainment industry. The awards, which is in its second edition, got a deafening applause from attendees for its organization and was likened to the Oscars.

29 awards were given to deserving movie practitioners with the Kenyan movie, Nairobi Half Life sweeping most of the trophies. ENCOMIUM Weekly brings you tit bits from the event.

OPENING MONTAGE BY FEMI JACOBS AND CREW

Guests were welcomed into the ambience of the Expo Hall, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos with the superlative performance from Femi Jacobs and his crew. It was a dance drama about life in the beautiful city of Lagos.

MEET THE HOSTS

The event was hosted by the trio of IK Osakioduwa, former beauty queens, Osas Ighodaro and Vimbai Mutinhiri. The three were dutiful.

STRICTLY BLACK TIE EVENT

Majority of celebrities who made it to the awards complied with the dress code of glamorous evening dress for females and black tie for men. Attendees stepped out in cute outfits.

A NIGHT FOR FUNKE AKINDELE

Star actress, Funke Akindele dazzled as she went home with the award for Best Actress in a Comedy. She got nominated in this category thrice for her movies. At the end, Return of Sheri Koko won her the coveted trophy.

ABIOLA ALABI STILL WITH MULTICHOICE

Contrary to reports that Mrs. Abiola Alabi has resigned from Multichoice, she simply threw in the towel as managing director, MNet to take up another role in the same organization as managing director, Special Projects, a role which will see her supervising the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, the popular, Big Brother Africa and several new initiatives.

ENTERTAINMENT CONTENT

The organizers selected the best to entertain at the event. There were performances from Flavour, Davido, Waje and Cobhams Asuquo.

A STAR STUDDED EVENT

The award was well attended by key players in the entertainment industry. We saw Kate Henshaw, Rita Dominic, Funke Akindele, Genevieve Nnaji, Desmond Elliot, Teju Babyface, John Okafor, Osita Iheme, Mercy Johnson, Folake Folarin Coker, Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti, Yul Edochie, Carol King, Yvonne Okoro, Ashionye Carl Raccah, Mercy Aigbe, Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, Ramsey Nouah, Gbeno Adesina, Melvin Oduah, and a host of others.
