THE Board of Trustees (BOT), Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has released the 2014 electoral guidelines and time table.

Disclosing this to ENCOMIUM Weekly on Friday, September 26, 2014, AGN BOT chairman, Prince Ifeanyi Dike said they made key resolutions pertaining to the forthcoming election at a meeting on September 17, 2014.

According to Prinec Dike, the resolutions made by AGN BOT would be binding on all members of the guild for the election and would be considered as a special clause in the constitution of AGN.

Part of the resolution read:

That the national election of two years ago was free and fair, and leaves no room for fraud, and has promoted more peace and unity within the guild.

That the Guild is not financially rich enough to invest on a more expensive election congress which is not fraud free and cannot guarantee us a free and fair election as did the last election, also the prevailing health issue in Nigeria (EBOLA) cannot permit the Guild to congregate such a large crowd in one venue.

That the 2014 AGN national election will be conducted the same way the last election was conducted, which is by every state chapter that is qualified to vote will vote on the same day with all other qualified state chapters in front of their members and the result sent to the board and the AGNEC by text and e-mail.

That all posts are open for contest based on AGN constitutional provisions.  The posts are as follows: National President; Vice President South East; Vice President South West; Vice President North Central; Vice President South South; Vice President North East; Vice President North West; National Secretary; National Financial Secretary; Treasurer; Director of Strategy Research and Documentation Officer; National Publicity Officer; Director of Guild Services; Chief Whip; Assistant National Secretary.

– That the national EXCO in power now will remain in office till the end of their tenure.

The BOT election time table also fixed September 18, 2014 as the beginning of election campaign; sales and return of forms is October 2 and 3, while screening of candidates is slated for Thursday, October 16, 2014.

It also noted that AGN presidential hopefuls would pick their forms with the sum of N500,000; the Vice President, N250,000; National Secretary, N300,000, while the other aspiring officers, except the Chief Whip and Assistant National Secretary would pay N150,000 to vie for offices.  The former would pay N50,000.

Meanwhile, the AGN BOT has announced the appointment of star actor Emeka Ossai as Chairman/Returning Officer AGN Electoral Committee (AGNEC).  Elder Babatunde Coker is Vice Chairman, while Ejike Metusela is secretary.  Star actress, Grace Amah and Walter Anga are members.

AGNEC would report directly to the BOT.

Signatories to the landmark resolution are chairman, AGN BOT, Prince Ifeanyi Dike; Vice Chairman, Emmanuel Oguguah; Sony McDon, Secretary; Okey Onyegbule and Murphy Stephen.

Confirming this in a chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Saturday, September 27, 2014, AGN National Secretary, Abubakar Sanusi Yakub said the National Executive would co-operate with BOT and AGNEC to ensure a free and fair election and a smooth transition.
