Ajinomoto partners ADWEF to empower widows

One of Nigeria’s leading foods seasoning brand, Ajinomoto threw its weight behind the annual Advocacy for Widows Empowerment foundation (ADWEF), Widows Empowerment Day recently held in Gabi Kagoma LGA for widows in three communities in Kaduna State.

In a release from the office of ADWEF, it stated that as part of its core area of focus which is the empowerment of widows, previous editions have had supports from former partners like Seplat Petroleum Dev Company Plc have demonstrated its believe in the emancipation and economic liberation of the Nigerian widow from poverty and neglect in our various communities. The project which is in its third year witnesses the presentation of working tools to widows across Nigeria like grinding machines, sewing machines, fertilizers and farming implements, hair dressing accessories, startup business capital, testimonials, to some widows who must have concluded their vocational training. While others are sent on vocational training to acquire more entrepreneurial skills.

Since the commencement of the widows empowerment day event by our foundation, most widows lives have been turned around for the better hence testimonials from beneficiaries have inspired us to do more and search for more partners to come on board and support our cause to bail Nigerian widows out of poverty for self sustainability. ADWEF currently have a membership strength of 3000 widows in 8 states spread across Nigeria namely Lagos, Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Delta, Abia, Cross River, Ogun. Due to lack of adequate funding, we have not been able to meet our annual target of empowering at least 150 widows whom are always ready to contribute their own quota to the society if adequately empowered. Our door is open for new partners hence adwef cannot do it alone.

Advocacy for Widows Empowerment Foundation also commends some brands like Ajinomoto, highly spirited individuals, organizations, state and local governments in the country that have developed the appetite for the empowerment of widows as they dole out cash and products to these less privileged every year, so as to help in financing their day to day engagement, as there is no social security scheme in Nigeria.
