All the messy controversies of Dino Melaye revisited

Kogi-West senator, Dino Melaye, one of Nigeria’s most controversial senators is in the news again, this time for issuing an unwelcoming threat to beat up and impregnate Senator Remi Tinubu (APC Lagos Central Senatorial District and wife of APC National Leader Ahmed Bola Tinubu) at a closed-door senate meeting on Tuesday, July, 12, 2016

Melaye, a two-time divorcee seems to display childish maturity in handling women. He was first married to Tokunbo Melaye whom he beat and injured while she was pregnant; later in 2015, he terminated his short-term marriage with Alero Melaye.

The African youth of the year award recipient and former chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths was also indicted to have impregnated Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, a Nigerian Actress in 2012, which he defiantly denied.

The questionable actions and comments of Dino Melaye would make one think ‘Controversies’ is the middle name of the self-acclaimed anti-corruption activist and private investigator.

Dino Melaye who claims to be 42, had his credibility questioned with the information given to the National Assembly website claiming that he wrote his WASSCE in 1986 at the age of 12.

In April 2016, Dino who is regarded as the embattled Senate president’s bodyguard vowed to die for Bukola Saraki, who is undergoing trial for false declaration of assets and further threatened to kill anyone who showed up to testify against Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu in their ongoing forgery case through his Facebook page:

“My brother and friend Sen. Bukola Saraki, if you have 1 trillion supporters, I’m one. If you have one billion, I’m one. If you have one million, I’m one. If you have one thousand, I’m one. If you have ten, I’m one. If you have only one supporter, I’m one. And if you have no single supporter, it means I’m dead. No shaking. Four years too sure,”

In March 2016, he got himself in a mess with the people of Edo state when he mocked governor Oshiomhole for not patronizing ‘Made-in-Nigeria women’ after his marriage to Cape Verde model, Lara. “Apologies to my uncle, the Governor of Edo State, we must as a people stop paying dowries in dollars and pounds. It is time for my colleagues here to become born again.”

Over the years, Nigerians have also frowned at the senator’s obsession for cars which he purchases using the “people’s taxes”; the former Ahmadu Bello University Zaria Student Union Leader and leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has in his garage automobiles of all sorts including 2015 Rolls Royce, Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, G Wagon Mercedes and a N5 million Tricycle

His Babalawo appearance at the Senate Chambers could have been a cheap way of distracting the public from his personality humiliation or showing off his wealth and fashion consciousness.

The father of three, who has a multimillion naira mansion in Abuja and loads of customised expensive wine appear to have mastered the wrong use of his active social media presence as he posted a picture of him carrying a tray of groundnuts on his head to claim that he used to hawk in his youth.

In September 2015, he tweeted “IF YOU CANT DAZZLE THEM WITH YOUR BRILLIANCE, BAFFLE THEM WITH YOUR BULLSHIT”

Again in May 2016 on his Facebook, he threatened to led ‘mother of all protest’ in reaction to the increase in PMS price by the Federal Government: “My sincere advise is for the National Chairman of party to our party to suggest that the federal government immediately reverse the announced increase in the pump price of PMS,

“If after 7 days from Monday there is no reversal, I will mobilize Nigerians from all walks of life for the mother of all protest. This is not what we promised Nigerians. The time is not right and the negative effects will be unbearable. A word is enough for the wise.”
