Ambode redeploys 12 senior officers for failure to provide street light during Germany president’s visit

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has bared his fang on 12 officials of Lagos State Electricity Board for their inability to provide Street Light on Mobolaji Johnson Road, Alausa, Ikeja, for three days during the official visit of President Joachim Gauck of Germany.

The governor was said to have been peeved by the total darkness the whole street was thrown into for these three days of the august visitors. He was said to have ordered that the General Manager of the agency, Engr. Peter Okenji be issued a query to explain why there was no light in that street for those three days.

The response of the General Manager was not satisfactory to the governor and he therefore ordered the General Manager and 11 other senior officers of the agency be redeployed.

The officers were therefore redeployed to Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. Some of the officers that were redeployed include, Abiola Okanlawon Olowu, Lukumon Hazeez, Adekunle Emmanuel Adediran, Jolomi Ufuoma Gbhenebiche. Tijani Akeem Odebiyi and Babatunde Ahmed Junaid.

Others are Olakunle Idris Hamzat, Oluwakemi Yewande Osondu, Ademola Ibrahim Fashola, Olakitike Kallymat Oyeyemi and Mojisola Fausat Adeyemi.

A new General Manager has been appointed for the agency. She is Engr. Olufolake Ibilola Kasumu, an Assistant Director in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The redeployment of these officers has no doubt generated mixed feelings amongst civil servants.

Some are of the opinion that the contractor which handled the project should have been sanctioned rather than the civil servants.

When we called Tinu Aiyegbusi, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, she said “Redeployment is just a normal thing within the secretariat.”

But when we pointed it to her that the General Manager of the agency was just appointed less than three months ago, she responded thus: “I think he has gone for higher service. It is the prerogative of the governor to take anybody anywhere. It is not a new thing”, she concluded.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has been very passionate about the Light up Lagos Project in which he wants all nooks and crannies of Lagos lit in the night.

Many prominent streets of Lagos have been lit through this project. They include Third Mainland Bridge, Oba Akran Street, Ikeja, Allen Avenue Roundabout, Opebi Road, Newly reconstructed Metal Box Road, Ogba Industrial Estate, CIPM Road, CBD, Alausa, Ikeja, Wempco Road, Ogba, College Road, Ogba, Agidingbi Road, Ikeja and many others.
