Ambode’s Commissioners to be sworn-in next week…who gets what

CONTRARY to rumour that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s would-be commissioners and special advisers would be sworn-in on Friday, October 16, 2015, this might not happen until Monday, October 19, 2015, if the information at our disposal is anything to go by.

ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered that after the screening by the 15-man ad-hoc committee of the House of Assembly, which took the whole of last week, the report of the screening committee would be laid before the House on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.

After the deliberations by the committee of the whole house on the reports on that Tuesday, October 13, 2015, the nominees would be made to appear again before the whole House.  This may take another three days.  The report of screening committee on these petitions and others will certainly generate a lot of debate on the floor of the House which may prolong time and thereby causing delay in confirmation of the nominees by the House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, there are speculations on the portfolios that some of the nominees would be given.  ENCOMIUM Weekly takes a look on these portfolios or offices that some of these would-be commissioners will be occupying.

 

PRINCE GBOLAHAN LAWAL, the former Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives in the last government will be the next Commissioner for the Environment.  He is 45 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany and Masters of Science in Violence, Conflict and Development.

 

ENGR. GANIYU JOHNSON is the Special Adviser to the governor on Works and Infrastructure.  The 63 year-old graduate of Civil Engineering from University of Southern California, where he got a Masters degree is likely to be the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure.

 

  1. JIDE IDRIS is the immediate past Commissioner for Health in the State. The 60 year-old medical doctor who has been a member of Lagos State Executive Council since 2007, is likely to hold his position as the Commissioner for Health in the new cabinet.

 

  1. FOLARIN COKER is the erstwhile Special Adviser to the governor on Central Business District (CBD). The 50 year-old Lagosian is said to be designated as the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure.

 

  1. STEVE AYORINDE, is a journalist. He was the former Managing Director of National Mirror and former Editor of The Punch Newspaper. He is presently the Chief Executive Officer of Relentless Media. He studied at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and University of Leicester, United Kingdom.

He is said to be designated as the next Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state.

 

HON. (DR.) MOBOLAJI ABDULHAKEEM  ABDULLATEEF is 48 years. He holds LL.B, LL.M and Ph.D degrees in law from University of Lagos, Akoka.  He was a member of Lagos House of Assembly in 2003.  He was also a Special Adviser to Governor Fashola (SAN) on Political and Legislative Matters in 2007. He is designated as the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture.

 

  1. DAYO MOBEREOLA is the incumbent Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). He holds a Ph.D degree in Transport Economics from the University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom. He is said to be designated as the next Commissioner for Transport in the state.

 

HON. (MRS.) LOLA AKANDE is 56 and a former lawmaker.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany and Masters in Public Administration. A mother of three and grandmother of three too, she will be holding forth in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

 

HON. (MRS.) ADEBIMPE AKINSOLA is 54. She holds a Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) and Bachelor of Arts in French.  She was in Lagos House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015 representing Ikorodu Constituency II.  She is designated as the Commissioner for Tourism.

 

PROFESSOR ADEMOLA ABASS is a Professor of Law, with specialty in International, Criminal Law, Equity and Trust, Peace and Security.  Until his appointment, he was the Head of African Centre for Peace and Security Training, Institute for Security.  He is likely going to be the Commissioner for the newly created Ministry of Wealth Creation.

 

ADENIJI KAZEEM is a lawyer. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos and LLB (Hons) from the same university. He started out as Tax and Regulatory Consultant with Arthur Andersen (now KPMG) before leaving to establish his own law firm.

He is designated as the next Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

 

MUSTAPHA ABIODUN AKINKUNMI holds degrees from the New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury and Fordham University, Bronx, New York. He was once a consultant, financial advisor and business strategist with AT&T, Goldman Sachs, Phibro Energy, First Boston (Credit Suisse), World Bank and Central Bank of Nigeria.

He is likely to be the next Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

 

ABIOLA WASIU ANIFOWOSHE is 63. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degree in Architecture from Howard University, United States of America. He also has Masters in City and Regional Planning from the same university.  A retired civil servant in Lagos State, he has worked in the Lagos State Ministries of Works, Housing and Physical Planning and Urban Renewal Authority, where he retired as general manager.

He is designated as the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

 

AKINYEMI ASHADE is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. He is presently a partner at KPMG. If the information at our disposal is anything to go by, he is likely to be the next Commissioner for Finance.

 

OLUFEMI ADEBOYE ODUBIYI is 48. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance from London Metropolitan University, London and Masters of Science degree in Information Systems Engineering from Southbank University.

He is presently the IT Director of Dangote Group.  Before then he worked for Airtel as systems support manager, Head IT and Director Billing and Value Added Service.  He is designated as the next Commissioner for Science and Technology.
