Fifty eight year old former Super Eagles coach and Nigerian Football Federation technical director Amodu Shuaibu died on Saturday , June 11, 2016, in his sleep in Benin (Edo state). He was said to have complained of chest pain, only for him to pass on later.
The NFF released a statement which reads: ‘ NFF Technical Director, Amodu Shuaibu has died at the of 58. The four- time coach of the Super Eagles complained of chest pain on Friday night and died in his sleep. RIP. Amodu Shuaibu’s deaths comes three days after that of former Super Eagles Captain and Coach, Stephen Keshi’.
His corpse has reportedly been deposited at Stella Obasanjo Hospital morgue in Benin city.
Sunday Oliseh, former Eagles player and coach is one of those who expressed sadness about the news. He twitted, ‘Waking up to another devastating horrible news: Amodu Shuaibu, former coach of Nigeria is proclaimed dead! 1st Keshi & now this. God help us!’
Lawyer and activist Festus Keyamo also twitted, ‘What’s happening? Amodu Shuaibu, my good friend, called me a week ago that he would be in Abuja next week to see me! So sad! What is this?!!’
FUNMI Aiyana twitted : ‘I am a little numb to read about Amodu Shuaibu’s passing on so soon after #Keshi. Bit loss for words and emotions. God rest his soul.’
JJ. Omojuwa – ‘ I just heard of the tragic death of coach Amodu Shuaibu . This has to be our worst football year ever. 2 of our most successful cache gone.’
Many Nigerians woke up to the shocking news which comes only four days after Stephen Keshi’s death (on Tuesday, June 7 around 11:30 pm) also in Benin. Incidentally, both corpses are now at Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin city. Keshi’s will undergo an autopsy to determine if he really died of hypertension and broken heart at 54 or if there was more to it . On Amodu’s part, it is unclear if he also had heart problems.
