Amosun, Amaechi meet on resolution of Lagos-Ibadan Rail/Sango flyover impediment

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday met to discus the best engineering design on the right of way and rail alignment at Ijoko axis of the Lagos-Kano rail project.
Amaechi, speaking after an inspection of the flyover at Ijoko, Sango Ota area of the state with the governor, told press men that this was necessary to address the challenge causing the delay of the project, so as to meet set target for its completion.
The minister identified the right of way and height of the flyover being constructed by the Ogun state government as some of the reasons for the delay, adding that his ministry would await suggestions from engineers as regards the engineering options to address the challenge.
On the cash refund request of the state government, Amechi disclosed that the Federal Executive Council has started deliberations on the refund of the money spent to construct federal roads in the state.
He assured that the residents, whose houses were demolished to pave way for the project, will be compensated.
Also speaking, Amosun expressed delight over the determination of the Federal Government to execute the project, noting that reviving the rail system is in the interest of the nation.
According to him, the economy of the country, depends to a considerable extent, on the Ogun state axis, which he described as a passage for other states.
Pleading for the speedy completion of the project, he said it will reduce the impact of vehicular movement on the roads and also serve as a means of transporting goods.
The governor stated that about 90 percent of the roads constructed in the state by his government are federal roads and urged the Federal Government to refund the money spent, so that it can be utilised to further develop the state.
