Amosun Commissions Institute to Drive Technical, Vocational Education

The quest by the Ogun State government to promote Technical and Vocational Education has received a boost, with the commissioning of a technical institute, established by the state government in collaboration with Samsung Heavy Industries, Korea (SHIK) institute.
Speaking, while commissioning the Ogun State Technical Institute, at the Government Science and Technical College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, yesterday, the governor said it was part of efforts by the state government, to engender socio-economic development, using education as anchor.
Amosun said government would rather create job creators, rather than employment seekers, especially in ensuring the needed manpower to service the increasing number of industries in the state.
He assured Nigerian youths that the government would continue to support and collaborate with partners, that will help in technical and infrastructural development for technological advancement.
In his goodwill message, Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju Adekunbi, noted that the project will create a platform for the youths to re-direct their energy, towards technical development, which in the long run, will improve the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, in his speech, while acknowledging the development stride of the Amosun government, noted that the institute will further enhance the educational standard.
While commending the laudable project, wife of the Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunso Amosun said the institution should be used as standard in the development of technical education, beyond the secondary school level.
In her welcome address, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, who stated that the project was borne out of passion for the development of the people as well as prepare for the inevitable future, where technology will drive almost all sphere of human endeavour.
