Amosun hails gallantry of fallen heroes

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has hailed the gallantry of fallen heroes, saying they laid down their lives for unity and peaceful co-existence of the nation.

The governor was speaking to news men during ceremonies to mark the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, yesterday.

He urged Nigerians to reciprocate the patriotism of the fallen heroes, by living in unity, irrespective of religion, gender, tribe or political affiliation.

Amosun commended the security agencies for restoring peace to the country, urging the people to love each other and shun acts the can cause disharmony.

Highlights of the event was when the governor, along side top military and paramilitary officers as well as paramount rulers, took turns to lay wreath at the cenotaph.

The governor also released 57 white pigeons, representing the 20 Local Governments and the 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state, as a symbol of national peace, after which the fallen heroes were honoured with a 21-gun salute.

At a reception organised by the Nigerian Army, to also mark the day at the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, the Brigade Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Brigadier General Basil Adonkie assured that the Army would continue to support the families of the fallen heroes, charging serving officers to be upright and diligent in their service to the nation.
