Anenih was an uncommon politician

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has said the death of former Minister of Works, Chief Tony Anenih is a great loss to the nation, describing him as an uncommon politician.
The governor, in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Adedayo Adeneye, said the late Anenih was a distinguished Nigerian and worthy statesman.
“I received news of the death of Chief Anthony Akhakon Anenih with a heavy heart. This is because his contributions to the growth of our nation, as public officer and politician were exceptionally selfless.
“He excelled as a police officer, retiring as a police commissioner, with laurels to his credit. His foray into politics left unforgettable marks, notable of which is his staunch support as national chairman of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), for the late Chief MKO Abiola, which enabled him emerge as the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.
“His role as deputy national coordinator of the Olusegun Obasanjo Campaign Organisation in the 1999 and 2003 elections and chairman, Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), appropriately marks him as Mr. Fix it, for his uncommon political moves”, the governor added.
He said as a founding father of the sustained democratic rule, which Nigeria has been enjoying since 1999, he wished the late politician lived longer to reap the fruits of the new Nigeria, as entrenched by the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Amosun prayed that God will grant the Edo State Government, the Anenih family and the political class, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
