Anguish as Gideon Aremu, Oyo Lawmaker is shot dead – How he died

The lawmaker representing Oorelope constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu, has been shot dead.
The assassination, encomium.ng gathered, took place in the wee hours of Friday when Aremu’s assailants reportedly numbering three, trailed him on a motorcycle to his Alakia residence in the Egbeda local government area of the state, before shooting him.

According to sources, “They followed Honourable home last night at around 11 p.m. and started shooting at him immediately he got down from his car. The only thing they took from him before they took off was his phone.”

Hon. Gideon was rushed to the nearby Toun Hospital on Iwo Road, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead.

Hon. Aremu was elected on the platform of the Labour Party and he was the Chairman, Committee on Information, security and strategy in the Oyo Assembly.

The Oyo State Police Command’s spokesman, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu has said that the Police are on the trail of the assailants.

“The Commissioner of Police in charge of Oyo State Command, CP Leye Oyebade has ordered an investigation into the matter. The culprits will be arrested. We assure all residents of Oyo State that we will get the culprits arrested. It is a suspected murder case,” he said.
