Anni Dewani: Taxi driver claims he was ‘underpaid’ by husband, Shrien to kill wife

The taxi driver convicted of killing of Anni Dewani has told Western Cape High Court that her husband, Shrien had promised him £285 (N75,810) for organizing the murder of his wife, but he became ‘angry’ because he was only paid £57 (N15,162) in an envelope in a plastic bag.

Zola Tongo gave evidence after a November 16 (2010)-CCTV footage, screened in court yesterday (Tuesday, October 28) showed the pair meeting to exchange a package at Cape Grace Hotel.

Businessman Dewani, who denies arranging his wife’s murder, claims they were hijacked as they were being driven through Gugulethu township (Cape Town, South Africa) in Tongo’s minibus. He was released unharmed while Anni was driven away. She was shot dead on November 13, 2010 and was found in an abandoned minibus the next morning.
