Apple announces record sales for new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus

– sells over 10 million units in first weekend worldwide

Tech giant, Apple, on Tuesday (September 23) announced that it sold more than 10 million units of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus during the first weekend of sales (spanning Friday, September 19 – Sunday, September 21) – an 11% increase over last year’s iPhone 5S and 5C launch.

In a statement, Apple CEO, Tim Cook, said “Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend,” he also acknowledged iPhone 6 and 6 Plus shortages, as he did last year when the iPhone 5S was impossible to find in its early on-sale days.
