Arowolo – The man who killed his wife 6 years ago begs Ambode for pardon

Mr Akolade Arowolo, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) youth pastor that killed his banker wife, Titilayo Omozoye Arowolo, six years ago and was condemned to death by hanging, has asked Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to pardon him.
Arowolo was one of the 74 condemned prisoners in Kirikiri Maximum Prison that have written to the state governor asking for mercy under his constitutional power of prerogative of mercy.
Unfortunately, Reverend Chukwumeka Ezeugo, aka Reverend King, who was also condemned for murder, was not one of those seeking for Ambode’s pardon.
He’s not one of them because he is far away in a prison in the North East of Nigeria.
Those who asked are those serving their sentences in Lagos right now.
The case of the 74 condemned prisoners that applied for Ambode’s pardon is presently being reviewed by Prerogative of Mercy Committee headed by Professor Oyelowo Oyewo.
The committee, we gathered, was at Kirikiri Maximum Prison on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, to meet those who applied for amnesty.
The terms of reference of the committee in considering any condemned prisoner for amnesty includes :
i. The depth of the crime.
ii. Whether or not the person cut his victim into pieces.
iii. How long he had spent in prison after conviction .
iv. Whether or not he had repented and was remorseful.
v . Whether or not the society would accept the convict.
Mr Akolade Arowolo was convicted on February 21, 2014, by Justice Lateefat Okunnu of Lagos High Court sitting at Ikeja.
She sentenced him to death by hanging having found him guilty of one count charge murder of his wife.
He was said to have stabbed her 76 times on the chest, heart, lungs, liver, diaphragm, hands and other parts of the body.
