LEADER of Niger Delta People Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujaheed Asari Dokubo has no apologies for his recent inflammatory statement on the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. He is even confident that no matter what happens, Jonathan would coast to victory in 2015.
The ex-militant, who also supports the declaration of State of Emergency in some parts of the North restated this in an exclusive phone chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly’s Associate Editor, Uche Olehi on Monday, May 20, 2013.
On the allegation that he has been bought over by Aso Rock, Dokubo laughed it off, saying it is only natural to work for his Ijaw (Niger-Delta) brother.
The ex-militant and self acclaimed human rights activist had, weeks back, insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan must take a second shot at the Presidency to avoid imminent war!
Asari Dokubo had also boasted that no one can arrest him.
In another report, Dokubo had sensationally said he is disappointed in the conduct and political activities of embattled Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi. He blamed the rift between him and President Jonathan on Amaechi, insisting he is a traitor. Asari Dokubo’s grouse is the re-election of Governor Amaechi as Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum in a tension-soaked election held in Abuja on Friday, May 24. A faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has since rejected Amaechi’s victory, insisting that Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang is the authentic chairman of NGF.
Excerpts of ENCOMIUM Weekly’s chat with Asari Dokubo…
Where are you now, sir?
I am in Ijawland. I am specifically in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. I’m with my people.
Your statement on President Jonathan’s 2015 re-election bid is still raising dust, are you not worried?
Why should I get worried. They (the opposition) are the ones that should get worried. What I said is the position of my people.
But the Northern elite are calling for your head?
What is my business with them (the North)? I don’t respect their opinion. They are not contributing anything to the economy.
So, it is Jonathan or war in 2015?
That is the position of my people. That is our stand.
But Jonathan is said to be unpopular and cannot win another election?
That is not true. The facts are there. If the election is conducted today, Jonathan will certainly win. In fact, Jonathan has already won the 2015 presidential election, where will they come and vote? We are going to win everywhere. Please, quote me.
There is this allegation that Jonathan bribed you to support his presidential aspiration. Were you bought over for 2015?
Who bought Asari Dokubo? Abacha could not buy me. Abdulsalami could not buy me. Even Obasanjo didn’t buy me. It is now my brother (Jonathan) that will buy me. They are not serious. I was detained by virtually all military leaders including former President Obasanjo for Niger-Delta cause. Whatever I am today is because of Ijaw nation. So, I will now leave my brother and start supporting another person? That is not possible. I’m for Jonathan and the entire Ijaw nation.
What is your position on the State of Emergency in some states of the North?
The President has taken the right decision. I support him in whatever he does that is right.
