General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (retd) paraded a walking stick at the Council of State meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

The crafty former Head of State, 72, supported his weight with the stick as he exchanged jokes and banters with other members of the Council (Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, retd; Chief Ernest Shonekan and Gen. Yakubu Gowon, retd, among others).

The nerve problem which was said to have been as a result of gunshot wounds during the Civil War (1967-1970) has been a source of pain to ‘Maradona’.  Several operations to lessen the pain have been done in Germany –but it appears that the condition has not improved.

Babangida, military President between 1985 and 1993, paraded a smile at intervals as he chatted with former leaders yesterday, belying his pain.
