Bankrupt David James to sell off possessions

Bankrupt former England goalkeeper, David James has been forced into auctioning signed shirts, shorts and match balls to ease his dire financial situation. He was declared bankrupt in May.

Among the items put up for auction by the Liverpool and Portsmouth goalkeeper, through Kent-based auctioneer, Hilco are 150 signed shirts, shorts and match balls. Also being sold is James’ customized Astra van and Raleigh Chopper bikes.

The 44-year-old has built up crippling debts after breaking up with his wife, Tanya in 2005 (in which he paid £3m, N798m to her). He is said to have blown his £20million (N5.32bn) fortune which came from his football wages, endorsements and modelling contracts for companies such as Armani.
