Benin giggles as Glo Laffta Fest berths with fun

Fun-seeking residents of the ancient city of Benin, last Sunday night giggled to no end as Globacom assembled the best of the nation’s comedians to entertain the people at the first edition of its 2015 comedy show, the Glo Laffta Fest.

The crowd, which thronged the Best Western Hotel, GRA Benin City, venue of the comedy show felt fulfilled as the merchants of jokes on parade for the night of fun, laughter and dance, gave a very good account of themselves.  They unleashed uncommon humour on the ecstatic crowd.

Anchored by the ever-funny Warri boy, Bovi, the Benin edition of the Glo Laffta Fest is the first in the series of 11-episode show organised by Globacom to reward its teeming subscribers across different locations for their loyalty to the Glo brand over the years.

The audience, garbed in different evening fashions, roared with laughter as the comedians, such as I go Save, SIM Card, Osama, Youngest Landlord, D Don, MC Casino, and Funny Bones,  one after the other, reeled out rib-cracking jokes from the stage, just as the duo of Mr. Incredible, MI and Fela Anikulapo kuti’s disciple, Burna Boy, both Globacom’s Ambassadors, spiced up the evening of fun with songs.

The introduction of MI took the show to high octave, which sent the hall in wild excitement and the sensational Rapper rose up to the occasion with the performance of his songs, including OneNaira, a duet with the female vocalist, Waje.

Speaking at the show, Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator, Mid-West, Mr. Augustus Offor, thanked the  people of Benin for their faith in Glo brand, and underscored the importance of the of the primal city to the history of Nigeria.

“Globacom is delighted to have the first in the series of the show in Benin City. Indeed, Benin plays an important role in the history of Nigeria, that is why we are bringing the Glo Laffta Fest, Slide ‘n’ Bounce musical concert and Dance withPeter reality TV show to you here in Benin City,” he said.

The show which was largely attended by dignitaries and guests within Benin City and its environs also featured up and coming performers such as Warri Boy, R&A, Solution, Vizula, Zeek and Elvis Joe.

Stanley Agbokume, a student of the Benson Idahosa University who attended the show, said he wished the show would never end. “I was one of the first set of guests who arrived the venue. I’ve been looking forward to attending this show and I must tell you, I really had fun. The jokes were quite entertaining  and I just wished it will never end.”

From Benin, the comedy train will move to the Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Abeokuta, the rock city, will also have a feel of the comedy show on Sunday, September 13.
