Best Of Nollywood Awards releases nominees’ list

Organisers of the Best of Nollywood Awards have released the nominees for this year’s event. The announcement was made last Friday, August 1, 2014, inside the Banquet Hall of the Rivers State Government. According to Niran Adedokun, head of the screening committee, “The list came out of the best of productions that have been shot or released in Nigeria within the past 12 months. A total of 150 entries, out of which 23 were shot films were received this year. These movies have produced nominees for 30 of the 32 categories which emerged with this list. The two newly introduced categories are Best Television Series and Best Documentary.” He said further that as part of the organisers’ determination to promote indigenous movie productions, a new category in consideration of movies produced   in Nigerian’s three main languages will become a permanent feature of the awards from this year.

“However, only one Igbo film was entered this year, a situation which we are optimistic would be different henceforth.

In his address, the executive producer, Seun Oloketuyi said, “For the past six years, the Best of Nollywood Awards has been putting a golden seal of excellence on Nigerian movies and the brains behind them. Every year has come with its own drama and surprises but we have remained steadfast in our set mission to reward creativity, enterprise and excellence in our beloved industry. That is why for hardworking Nollywood stars and stakeholders, today is a day of reckoning.”

Hosted by beautiful Nollywood star, Bayray Mcnwizu, the event had in attendance the cream of Nigerian entertainment media, star actor, Fred Amata and the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State government, Chief Peter Okocha. Amata and Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, an On-Air-Personality with Beat FM were announced as hosts of the event which holds October 4 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The Head of the organizing committee, Kingsley James, also announced that the organizers had decided to honour the late filmmaker, Amaka Igwe, by endowing her with the Director of the year category
