ENCOMIUM Weekly had an exclusive phone interview with the Ilesa, Osun born thespian on this and much more on Thursday, February 2, 2017.

Congratulations on your 40th birthday.

Thank you so much. God bless you.

How does it feel clocking 40?

It feels great. In fact, I am so happy because it’s not an easy thing for one to clock 40. It’s the grace of God, and I really thank Him for that. I appreciate Almighty God for everything about my life, especially in my journey from childhood till when I turned 40. To God be the glory.

How would you describe the journey so far?

It has been a great experience. The journey has not been easy at all. It’s full of ups and downs, challenges and all that. You will also agree with me that life is not a straight jacket. Even, those born with silver spoons can’t say they have their lives smooth and perfect. It’s only God that’s perfect. It’s only God whose promises don’t fail. Nobody can say all has been fine since he or she was born, especially before clocking 40. But in my own case, I am grateful to God for His mercies upon me. It’s during the period God blessed me with a beautiful baby. So, I need to be very grateful to Him all the time for that blessing alone.

At what age exactly did you give birth to the child?

That’s when I was 36. So, so far, I am a very happy person. I got my first baby before clocking 40. Some got theirs even after 40. It’s not by my power but His grace. To me, being blessed with a child before clocking 40 was a special favour from God. I am so happy and excited about it.

Do you also believe life begins at 40?

Yes, because it’s another phase of life. It’s an age that comes with more maturity and challenges of its own.

At 40,you still look radiant, your body perfectly maintained and you’re always gorgeously dressed. Can you still continue with all these even after 40?

Yes, why not? My beauty is natural. It’s a special blessing by God. So, I will continue to look beautiful and attractive for the rest of my life.

When are you now planning to settle down or you don’t consider it necessary anymore?

Why? I see marriage as an important thing in every woman’s life. And it should be an everlasting thing when you’re blessed with a spouse of your own. But it all depends on God. And by God’s grace, I will settle down this year.

That means you have found love. Can you reveal to us the identity of the lucky man?

I won’t disclose that for now. All I know is that when it’s time, you will be invited as a friend.. I will also invite your company to cover the wedding by the special grace of God.

At 40, what are the things you’re doing before that you can’t do again?

I don’t think I have such things in my record. There’s nothing I have been doing that I will like to drop now that I am 4o. Before now, I have not been engaging in any social vices. I don’t drink nor smoke. I don’t club, I don’t attend any how parties. I don’t have tattoo on my body. I don’t fight in public. I am an easy going person. So, what’s it am I dropping now that I am 40?

What’s your life’s greatest lesson at 40?

Nothing much. The only thing is that before I clocked 40, what I saw as a lesson was that I was trained in a hard way in the course of growing up in the industry. That’s when I produced my first movie, Oyin Ade. But thank God, everything turned out to be a blessing because I handed it to God.

At times, when people think they have cheated you, it may turn out to be a blessing when you don’t give up. When I shot the movie years back, it was premiered and launched at Grand View, Magodo, Lagos. Provided all the needed material and human resources for the movie, including locations, camera, costumes and all that.

So, I was expecting to get a lot of money in return from the executive producer who bank rolled the movie after selling it, but reverse was the case. I was only given N 200,000 by the executive producer despite the fact that the movie grossed above N3 m then. But when Chief Aina Kusoro (Kush), the marketer of the movie heard of what happened, he was bitter about it and gave me N100,000 from his pocket as a compensation. That’s why since that time till date, I still give Kush that respect and that’s also the reason he still remains my marketer till date. All I know is that you just need to believe in God even when you’re being cheated.

He will always fight for you. Now, where is the person who thought he has cheated? Today, he’s nowhere to be found though he’s still alive. The long and short of it all is that you don’t give up no matter the challenge. Just keep moving, you will surely get there so far you believe in God. It’s just a matter of time.

At 40, would you say God has blessed you wonderfully?

Yes, He has. Above all, I have sound health. None of the parts of my body is ailing. I am a complete person and I have peace of mind. I thank God for everything.

Would you say you’re fulfilled?

Yes, I am. I bless God for that.

Do you have a plan to shoot a movie about life at 40?

No, but I am planning to release a movie. The movie has nothing to do with me. It’s a very serious movie, full of messages and comedy.

When exactly is it going to be released?

Very soon.

Who would you appreciate in the journey of your life so far?

My parents, of course. Then, my pastor and friend and my daughter. Above all, God Almighty who has always been there for me.

What’s the greatest scandal that almost tore you apart before clocking 40, and how did you handle the situation?

To be honest, I don’t think I have such a thing in my record because nothing bothers me. And up till now, nothing anybody has written or said about me that moved me.

What’s your relationship with Senator Dino Melaye now? Do you still communicate with each other?

I have no comment on that. It’s private.

Let’s talk about your birthday party, how did it go?

Everything went well. God took charge. A lot of people attended. Everything was okay. The programme started on Friday, January 27, 2017, the exact day I clocked 40. On that day, I went to a less privileged home with cash and gifts in company of my friends, family and some journalists. From there, we moved to Protea Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos where we ate.

We later moved to Martinos Hall, Marwa Gardens, Ikeja where we had fun for the rest of the day. And on Sunday, January 29, 2017 there was a grand finale and lavish reception in my Magodo, Lagos residence. Evangelist Lanre Terriba (Atorise) was on the band stand throughout. It’s a memorable day for me. And all those that attended the party enjoyed the moment with me. I really thank God for that.
