However, the incessant crisis between the Bowen University’s administration and the students has taken a new dimension as the university has allegedly decided to punish the 50 students found guilty of the crime by forcing them to sign an undertaking to wear school uniform and sandals if they still wish to continue with their education in the same university. .

In the undertaking, the students were to accept humbling punishments, which include cutting of grass and wearing of school uniforms and sandals like secondary school students.

We gathered the decision was arrived at due to the intervention of the parents who felt expelling them is not the best option.

Meanwhile, sources claimed that damage to the university’s assets and staffers’ properties were huge (following students’ rampage).

The management of Bowen University had to shut the school indefinitely following students’ protest and destruction of properties. According to insiders, the students intended a peaceful protest because of the increase in school fees, poor water supply and epileptic power supply in the school.

Students claimed that they have been suffering due to these problems for a long time, and it became worse when the new vice chancellor assumed office. They also reported that meal time clashed with their lectures too. Now, they are thanking God that the issue had been sorted out, and the school has been reopened, but their terms and conditions are unbearable, according to some students.

Properties worth N50 million were damaged during the faceoff between students of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State and the school management on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 . The students protested power outage and lack of water supply in one of the new hostels in the school and increase in tuition fees.

No fewer than 20 vehicles were damaged by the students as they razed down buildings and caused mayhem all over the university campus.
