BUHARI’S NEXT PRESIDENT: Wins in 21 states with 15 million votes,  Jonathan sweeps 15 states and FCT, gets 12 million votes

GENERAL Muhammadu Buhari, 73, will be the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2015!

The Katsina-born army General and former Head of State is fourth time lucky as he clinched 15 million votes, leading in 21 states in the March 28, 2015 election.

The incumbent President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, 57, won in 16 states with about 12 million votes.

General Buhari won in Adamawa, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Lagos, Gombe, Zamfara, Kebbi, Benue, Bauchi, Yobe, Sokoto and Borno.

And Dr. Jonathan won in Ekiti, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Nassarawa, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Plateau, Ebonyi, FCT, Edo, Taraba and Delta.

Apart from winning by simple majority of votes, General Buhari has more than 25 per cent of the votes in over 24 states, thereby fulfilling the requirements of being declared President on May 29, 2015.

The candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) didn’t surprise analysts and strategists familiar with voting patterns in Nigeria, and the current permutation on account of the alliance of the parties under which he contested.

The gangling, soft-spoken and disciplined gentleman whose reign in the 80s attracted condemnation and opprobrium presents a new visage which has won him many new converts.

Ever since the alliance of APC was concretised, and the primaries conducted on December 10, 2014, many have voted for the change agent many months ago.  Believing that he will bring the desired regeneration Nigeria needs, millions have rooted for him, yearning for change and revolution.  And his campaign brought in colours and fervor, and unimaginable interest from across the nation and beyond.

By February 14, General Buhari was reported to be leading, until the elections were postponed for six weeks to March 28, 2015.

The campaigns for the presidential election was rigorous as both candidates and their parties worked hard to convince the electorates and stakeholders to be on their side.

With South West agreeing to be the game-changer in the presidential election, Dr. Jonathan practically relocated here to convince all that he’s the candidate to believe in.  Attending many events across the land, convincing many publics about his transformation agenda, he didn’t leave anything to chance.  And he got quite a good number of votes in Lagos and Ondo and won Ekiti clearly.

Jonathan won in the South East and South-South, sweeping all the states in these zones.  Only Edo State was not by landside.

The President also made a good showing in the North.  But not quite enough in the North West, North East and North Central.
