Can Boko Haram commander, Joseph David be forgiven by Allah?

After having committed many atrocities, sent many people to the great beyond, the arrested Boko Haram commander, Joseph David (lbrahim Al Hajar) said everything he did was by mistake and also to save his life. He’s therefore seeking forgiveness from God.
“I want to say sorry because these things I did, I did them to save my life. If I didn’t do them, they might think I was trying to bring problem within them.

“So, I did these things smartly and logically till the time that God provided a way for me to escape.

“You know, the lives of people that I have wasted. At the end, I don’t know how it will be…on the last day of judgment. And I regret because I was a student before Boko Haram kidnapped me.”

Meanwhile, on whether the former Boko Haram commander can be forgiven on the day of judgment, it’s still hanging in the balance. According to Islamic cleric, Imam Abdulwaheed Akomolesin, if we go by what the Qur’an says in Chapter 3vs 135-136, which states, “And those who when they commit an indecency or do injustice to their souls remember Allah and ask for forgiveness for their faults- and who forgives the faults but Allah and (who) do not knowingly persist in what they have done.”

Akomolesin stressed further that the man will still have to go round all the families of the people he had killed and seek for forgiveness, and if he’s forgiven, he’s likely to also earn Allah’s forgiveness on the day of judgment, especially if he was truly forced to commit the atrocities.”
