Can the International Police fish out Jyoti and Kiran Matharoo who have fled from the long arms of the law in Nigeria?
Legal sources claimed that it is unlikely, because there is no extradition treaty between Nigeria and Canada.
So, who would enforce the bench warrant against them?
At the time they were issued emergency travel documents by Canadian High Commission on December 31, 2016, through the Immigrations, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, it was established that they were in grave danger.
And since the bail terms did not include not travelling out of Nigeria, they easily got the temporary papers to leave – and they boarded a plane on January 1, 2017, to Canada enroute France.
So, unless they return here, the trial is on hold for now…
