Canteen owners speak on the effect of Ebola on their business

The outbreak of Ebola virus in Nigeria has had an adverse effect on socio-economic activities. Nigerians are scared of patronizing hospitals, restaurants, public toilets, etc.
ENCOMIUM Weekly sampled the opinion of restaurant owners about the effect of Ebola on their business.

AMARACHI OKOYE, Medalion restaurant
How has the Ebola outbreak affected patronage in your business?
The awareness is all over and customers are aware of the deadly disease and everyone is being careful with what they do. So, I will say the Ebola outbreak has not really affected my business because my customers are aware of what is going on and are applying all preventive measures.
What preventive measures are you taking?
I educate my customers to always wash their hands and I also give hand sanitizers for customers to use.

FOLASHADE ADEYEMI, B&W Kitchen
How has the Ebola outbreak affected patronage in your business?
The Ebola outbreak has not really affected our business. All preventive measures are being applied and we ensure that our foods are well cooked and our cooks are hygienic enough and our customers are aware of all these.
What preventive measure are you taking?
Washing of hands frequently and keeping the environment clean.

JOHN ALEX, Dom Place
How has the Ebola outbreak affected patronage in your business?
I will say it is neither here nor there, the outbreak is all over the place and our customers are more careful. They are aware and this does not stop them from patronising us. So, I will say the outbreak has not really affected us.
What preventive measure are you taking?
Washing of hands, using of hand sanitizers, keeping the environment clean.

DORIS SAMSON, Challon Restaurant
How has the Ebola outbreak affected patronage in your business?
There has been a change in the business and I suspect it might be because of the outbreak. Customers rather eat at home now than coming to the restaurant due to the outbreak. I will say sales is no longer like before.
What preventive measure are you taking?
Placing of hand sanitizers on the table and educating my customers.

SHARON IKEDIEZE, Licky Restaurant
How has the Ebola outbreak affected patronage in your business?
I have not really lost customers due to the fact that my customers are all aware and are all educated about this deadly disease so, patronage has not really changed.
What preventive measure are you taking?
I implore my staff to always wash their hands at and same to my customers.
