Celebrating Valentine’s Day on a low budget

DIAMONDS and a five-star meal are not necessarily meaningful expressions of love for Valentine’s Day.  You don’t have to be a millionaire to spoil your Val.  All you have to do is plan ahead and try to define your budget and stick to it.  As long as she feels spoilt, your day is a success.  Here are simple gestures that show real love..

FLOWERS

It is only in this part of the world that flowers are not well appreciated.

If you really want to give flowers but can’t afford to visit a florist, you can purchase fresh rose petals either red or yellow, and sprinkle them all over the house or the bedroom instead of buying a bouquet.  After you have done this, let it lead you both to a special night.

BREAKFAST IN BED

In order to make your spouse feel special and loved on Valentine’s Day, you do not have to take him or her to an expensive restaurant to have lunch or dinner when you can do something romantic at home.  On Valentine’s morning, you can spoil your Val by fixing him or her breakfast in bed.  Sandwich and a glass of milk or orange juice would never go wrong.  This will come as a surprise to your Val, especially when such a treat has never been given.  Just make sure you are early enough with the breakfast tray.

TEXT BY THE HOUR

You can send text messages to your Valentine every hour telling them how you feel about them, why you love and appreciate them.

By doing this, you are telling him/her what you have always wanted to say by texting every hour.  This will definitely keep your Val blushing all day.

GIVE TIME

Giving time is the ultimate romantic gesture.  It will mean a great deal if you are usually stretched for time and you choose to give up the whole day to spend with your beloved, doing things together that have nothing to do with work.  Banish the mundane and just allow the day to be about the two of you.  As part of this, be thoroughly attentive, listen and take the chance to share dreams and hopes for the future including renewing dreams that might have been taken for granted over time.

MOVIES

If you are probably used to going to the cinemas to watch a movie, here is another way of cutting down on your budget.  Buy a romantic movie on DVD, set up your living room to be very comfortable, turn the lights down, get popcorn and drinks, get all cosy and cuddle with your Val while you see the movie.

HOMEMADE CARD

A homemade card is always more meaningful than a purchased one.  It says not only what you write in it but also, “I took the time to make this because I care enough about you, to give that time.”  As far as mementos go, it’s likely the card will be kept for many years to come.  Other things can also be made not just cards.
