FEMI AND SALOME BRIGHT

FEMI BRIGHT

It’s a time to celebrate love. I will celebrate it at home and go out for fun later in the day.

I can’t actually say which is most memorable. It’s the display of unflinching love she gives me all the time.

SALOME BRIGHT

Valentine, means festival of love. Our plan is to visit any nice joint around our neighbourhood.

The most memorable Valentine was the year after we got married. The reason is that the joy was still very green in our mind. His love and affection is the best Val gift.

TUNDE OBE

What does Valentine mean to you?

Valentine is a day to celebrate love. I am sure most of us have an idea of the story of St Valentine. For me, I think setting aside a day to celebrate love is just to remind us that love is the most important ingredient in the world.

Adding love to the mix, turns things around instantly. I am not just talking about the love that exists between husband and wife or boyfriend and girlfriend but God’s love, which is the most powerful. All the killings going on, especially in the northern part of Nigeria only exist because of the absence of love.

How and where are you celebrating this year’s Valentine?

We have not held our annual event, Cupid Ball for a while. People are still calling me about it. By God’s grace, we will return with it next year. At least, that is the plan. This year, I think I will take my wife for a romantic Valentine weekend getaway.

When was your most memorable Valentine?

It was the first Cupid Ball at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, in 2007. It was nice to gather people all in the name of love.

What was the best Valentine gift you ever received from your spouse?

My first Valentine was 26 years ago, in 1988, when we spent our first Valentine Day together. We met in January the same year. We didn’t have much but she gave me the most valuable Val present ever, her heart.

FOLUKE DARAMOLA-SALAKO

How and where are you celebrating this year’s Valentine?

Myself and my hubby will be quiet about Valentine this year. We will only go to any nice event and retire to a five-star resort which he is still keeping secret from me because the next day is our wedding anniversary and it also doubles as my birthday. So, we have to come back to host a couple of friends in the house.

When was your most memorable Valentine?

That was last year because it was the eve of my birthday and wedding to the love of my life, Olukayode Ezekiel Ayinde Salako. I couldn’t have had a more romantic Valentine than what my hubby gave me.

The best Valentine gift I ever got was my engagement ring which my husband gave me a night to our wedding.

EMEKA AND STELLA ENYIOCHA

What does Valentine mean to you?

Stella: Val’s Day is that special day that comes once in a year to show extra love to that special person in your life and for you to cry alone if you are single. I think it should be about expressing love for one another, whether it is friendship or romantic relationship.

Emeka: Love is nothing at all if not spontaneous. The cranking up of expectations merely makes love into artificial…mannered minuet, rather than what it should be. I believe in romance ooo! But Valentine should and must be a daily ritual between a man and woman.

Val Day is no big deal. Love is for 365 days a year, not just for one day. And if the love is authentic, as I love my beautiful wife, then one should, above all, be authentic. That is the real meaning of romance, not a candle light dinner with champagne.

How and where are you celebrating this year’s Valentine?

Stella: It’s overrated but it really depends on the individual. You could do the same things with that special person on Val’s Day and any other day of the year. Come February 14, I will love something kind of cheesy, like a walk around the beach and later dinner. Simple like that. Gift is a must and my favourite perfume, cake and flowers will do.

Emeka: She has said it and because she wants it, she will get it. The whole point of the day is to share your feelings, not to outdo whatever gift you may have given the previous year.

When was your most memorable Valentine?

Stella: It was a weekend take away, a year after our wedding. We went to the beach, ran around like teenagers and a romantic dinner afterwards. I got a set of my favourable Chanel perfumes. What made it memorable was the thought behind the gesture.

Emeka: The best gift to your partner is the time, though, neither of which can be bought. I get amazing gifts from my wife on special occasions, not just on Val’s Day. All our Vals have been memorable.

What was the best Valentine gift you ever received from your spouse?

Stella: Every woman loves designer stuff. Emmy got me an LV bag with shoes to match last year. I love my LV bag and he gave my room a make-over. He knew I wanted a room make-over badly. He blew my heart away.

Emeka: Best gifts are usually the ones different and sentimental. You get to know her favourite food and things to do. My wife is a gift person. I try to copy her. She got a Marc Jacob’s watch last Val. You cannot go wrong with expensive watches. A true gift is from the heart.
