CHRISTENDOM UNITE IN PRAYER FOR PEACEFUL POLLS (2)

Christian bodies in Nigeria are relentless in their prayers, seeking divine intervention for the success of the forthcoming general elections. Encomium Weekly findings revealed that tension is high in the nation over the polls, especially for the presidential slot. The two leading candidates, President Goodluck Jonathan of Peoples Democratic Party and Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) of All Progressives Congress, are ready.
As the days approach, Christian bodies are intensifying their effort for divine intervention. They have been mobilizing their members through various activities. One of such is, prayer meetings for divine intervention for the success of the general elections. Their major focus is that the elections would be free and fair; non-violent before, during, and after. Also, they have encouraged their members to ensure they collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC). Interestingly, some spiritual leaders had asked their members to bring the PVC to church for prayers.
In this second part, Encomium Weekly scooped from missions across the country on how they are responding to the spiritual exercise.

FOURSQUARE CHURCH
At Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, prayer for the nation is major duty. The ministry had started prayer long before the election programmes was announced. According to information made available to Encomium Weekly, the Foursquare Prayer Ministry (the prayer group within the church) all over the regions in Nigeria, gathered at their Idimu, Lagos Headquarters on Friday, March 20, 2015, for a special prayer session specifically for the forthcoming elections.

DAYSTAR CHRISTIANS CENTRE
Daystar Christian Centre, led by Rev. Sam Adeyemi and Rev. (Mrs.) Nike Adeyemi, also was seriously involved in special prayers for the success of the forthcoming general elections. According to an insider, “This is what we do in all our services. We pray generally for the nation. We would not wait until evil prevails before we go to God in prayers. We pray without ceasing. That is what the Scripture says.”

CHRIST EMBASSY CHURCH
Christ Embassy Church is not left out in praying for the success of the forthcoming elections. The prayer is done at every nation where the church is found, Nigeria, South Africa, United Kingdom, and more. According to our findings, their prayers share same view with other Christian bodies, as they believe the peace of the nation determines the peace of the church.

MOUNTAIN OF FIRE AND MIRACLES MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL
Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International is a Christian body known for deliverance and breakthrough prayers. The church observes prayers for success of the forthcoming elections in all their branches worldwide as the general elections draw near. On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, a special prayer was organized by the General Overseer, Dr. Olukoya for the forthcoming elections. An insider informed us that, during the monthly programme, Power Must Change Hands, prayers for the elections were also held. “Our general overseer has really taken it so serious to pray for Nigeria whenever he ministers, even on the internet,” said an insider.

LIFE ANCHOR CHRISTIAN CENTRE
At Life Anchor Christian Centre, prayer for success of the forthcoming elections is also done regularly. According to Pastor Bayo Akinjiyan, “There is no time we don’t pray for this nation. Not only in the church. In all our meetings and special programmes, we pray for Nigeria as a whole and for the forthcoming elections. Our prayer is that God should enthrone a man after his heart in all the elective positions. We pray for restoration of glory of Nigeria. We also pray for peace to reign in our land, Nigeria.”

DIVINE INCREASE ASSEMBLY
Pastor Emmanuel Phillips of Divine Increase Assembly also informed us of the involvement of the church in the spiritual exercise. “We have the duty to pray for our nation and the leadership. The church is the light of the world and the salt of the earth. Scripture enjoined us to pray for the peace of our land. It is in the peace of the land that we shall have peace. Our prayer for the forthcoming elections is that the will of God should to be done, for there is nothing anybody can do to change the will of God. God is interested in the affairs of this country. The scripture also says, “Known unto the God in all his ways from the beginning.” Nothing that takes God by surprise, for he has the power to lift one up and to bring one down. We also pray that the will of God will not be manipulated by men,” he concluded.
