The cinema going culture has now been embedded in the DNA of Nigerians as movie aficionados never fail to catch a new flick. Be it a Hollywood blockbuster, sci-fi thriller or even an intriguing Nollywood flick, movie theatres are, more often than not, filled to capacity.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

Mad Max: Fury Road is an Australian post-apocalyptic action film directed, produced, and co-written by George Miller. It is the fourth film of Miller’s Mad Max franchise and the first film of the franchise

in 30 years, Fury Road stars Tom Hardy as Mad Max Rockatansky, replacing Mel Gibson in the title role.

Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, and Hugh Keays-Byrne also star. The film is set in a future desert wasteland where gasoline and water are scarce commodities, with Max (Hardy) joining forces with Imperator Furiosa (Theron) to flee from cult leader Immortan Joe (Keays-Byrne) and his army in an armoured tanker truck, which leads to a lengthy road battle. The film had its world premiere on May 7, 2015 at the TCL Chinese Theatre. It began wide theatrical release on May 14, 2015, including an out-of-competition screening at the 68th Cannes Film Festival. Critics have praised the film for its acting, screenplay, action sequences, stunts, and direction. The thriller has already crossed garnered more than $300 million (N6bn) in the box office since its release. Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult star in this movie.

 

TOMORROWLAND:

A WORLD BEYOND

Bound by a shared destiny, a teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor embark on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory. The flick has Hollywood star, George Clooney, Britt Robertson and Hugh Laurie.

 

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping programme, things go awry and earth’s mightiest heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for a global adventure. The movie boasts a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo.

 

SAN ANDREAS

In the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescue- chopper pilot makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter.

The flick has the likes of Hercules actor Dwayne ‘the rock’ Johnson, Alexandra Daddario, Carla Gugino.

 

SPY

A desk-bound CIA analyst volunteers to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer and prevent diabolical global disaster. Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Jude Law, Jason Statham are some of the stars that feature on the flick.

 

SILVER RAIN

Set in the slums of Africa, Silver Rain is a gripping love story. Ajoa, a ‘Kayayo’ street girl from Accra, meets Bruce, the rich heir of the Timothy fortunes. Their friendship sets into motion a class war, as Ajoa struggles to cross the class divide and find love, Bruce struggles to find himself.

Together, they must brave the turbulent political times, as well as the social barriers, that may just be their undoing.

The flick is a Pan African film with casting from five African countries – South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone. Written and directed by Juliet Asante, Silver Rain stars Elikem Kumordzie (BBA eight), Enyinna Nwigwe, Joselyn Dumas, Uru Eke amongst other talented actors.

 

SUPERSTAR

A talented musician from the ghetto is determined to make it in the music industry, however, he comes across a record producer who compels him to sign with his label. The movie features veteran actor, Jide Kosoko; actress, Toyin Aimakhu; MMMG artistes, Iyanya and Tekno Miles; Angel Ufouma and comedian Ushbebe.

 

TEMPTING FATE

Nollywood meets with Hollywood on the Christian flick, Tempting Fate. Two brothers, one of deep faith and the other buried in a life of crime have their worlds torn apart when the wrong one goes to jail and the other commits an unforgivable act.
