Afrocandy Explodes: ‘I don’t care what people say about my porn movie’

America based Nollywood actress, Judith Mozagwu popularly known as AfroCandy might have been into acting for a while but little or nothing was known about her until her soft porn movie and semi-nude pictures went viral over the internet Although Nigerians have fiercely criticized her movies, that hasn’t slowed her down one bit.

In this interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly, the model cum actress speaks about her kind of movies and all other controversies surrounding her.

Tell us a little about yourself, AfroCandy?

My name is Judith AfroCandy. I am USA based Nigerian actress, artiste, producer, director, commercial model, editor, script/songwriter, the CEO of Invisible Twins Productions Inc. and a single mother of two beautiful girls. So, you can call me a Multiple Threat. As per education, I am a graduate with two associate degrees in Office Administration and Computer Science. A bachelor degree in Business Management and a graduate in Medical Billing and Coding. I am also getting ready to go back to school to study Law.

How did you get into acting?

I started acting 2003 in Nigeria although I started out as a model. I had taken my daughters in for their modeling photo shoot, while we           were at the studio, I engaged in an argument with some guys and it happened that one of them was the CEO of King Judge Models. So he looked at me and said, ‘you can make a very good actress’, your looks and the way you talk. Why don’t you go into acting? And I was like really? So he gave me the address of the place to register as an AGN member, I went, registered and started auditioning. But before I got my first role as a ‘party scene extra’ in Singles and Married he put me into modeling and I did a couple of modeling jobs. Then I started getting lead roles and before I could hit actual stardom, I migrated to the USA in 2005 to join my ex. Due to struggling to settle down in the US, I was absent in the Industry until 2008 when I had a dream and I was singing in my dream, I woke up, explained it to my daughters and my first daughter was like Ma, you can record it and be a Legend in your style. And that’s exactly what I did, that’s how I came out with my first single, Somebody Help Me. Ever since then, I have been shuttling from music and acting. So, basically, I started from the bottom now I’m here.

We heard you are working on a porn movie, tell us about it? And would you be producing more in the nearest future?

I do not do porn movies. I did a regular movie entitled Destructive Instinct with some nude, sex scenes but ignorantly Nigerians call it porn because it was done by a Nigerian. But if that kind of a movie is done by foreigners they would have called it ‘Spartacus or Monster Ball, etc. Since I made the movie for people to believe, I am not going to worry about whatever they believe my movie is, they can call it whatever they like, I don’t care. And yes, I will be producing more of such movies, as a matter of fact, I have eight more movies coming out soon.

Why did you choose to do a porn movie?

Let me repeat, I do not do porn, let’s call a spade a spade, period.

Why the choice of Uche Ogbodo and Cossy Orjiakor and some other actresses you mentioned?

I chose them because I see them as beautiful Nigerian ladies who are well and naturally endowed in all the right places. And I also think they are as daring as I am and well loved by many. Again, let me make it clear I have no intention of getting them naked so people should stop freaking out.

They both denied you in an interview recently, what do you have to say about that?

Oh they did? Oh well, I can’t force people to do what they don’t want to do. I can cast other people in my movie if they honestly refuse my offer, using them is not a do or die affair. If you look around you can see there are lots of upcoming, fresh and beautiful girls with red eyes and the passion to achieve greater heights in the industry, so I am not going to worry about such

How much has the movie gulped so far?

The movie has gulped quiet a lot of money and I would not like to disclose that.

What was the inspiration behind the movie?

I wanted to set a pace in the Industry and also had a goal to break an ultimate record, so I achieved it

Don’t you think people would raise eyebrows?

I knew people were going to raise eyebrows but I didn’t care what or how they are going to feel. I had a goal to achieve, I have an audience for my kind of movie so am not supposed to worry about 10 percent that do not like what I do.

What were you doing before you ventured into movie production?

I have always been in movie production, just never put my name on it and when I am not, I do music.

Would you be premiering your movie in Nigeria?

Yes, I will be premiering my movie in Nigeria this summer but that would be exclusively for my fans only.

What has been the reaction of the Nigerian audience towards your movie?

The reactions have been overwhelming, there are highs and lows. Some like it some don’t. It is what it is you know, I can’t please the whole world.

What has been happening with the actor threatening you to take of the video from the internet?

The matter has been resolved and the case is closed.

Before now what has AfroCandy been doing?

I have always been handling my business

Would you encourage your daughter to go into acting?

I may be their mother because I brought them into the world, I may have the privilege to raise them up to adult age but I cannot tell them what to do or follow at a certain age. Besides, they are Americans who have their own minds, if they graduate from college and decide to follow my footsteps, it’s their own calling. If I can predict, they wouldn’t want to do what I do because they have better opportunities and better futures than mine. All I do now it to secure a better future for them so they don’t have to go through what I went through. Mind you, I tell my daughters everything I do, I even told them about this project, the nature of it but I could not show them because they are not up to 18 yet, I just had to prepare them in case they run into it on the internet, they won’t be shocked. So, don’t worry about my daughters, they are the best children any mother could ever ask for and I thank God for the gift. For now, they have their education and graduation to worry about.

What do you have to say about your husband’s allegation towards you?

I don’t care what he says now because it doesn’t make any difference. I have moved on, handling my business and will not bother myself with past things. I’ll rather leave the past in the past.

Do you plan to come back to Nigeria?

Of course I will always come back to Nigeria. Is it not my country of birth?
