YORUBA actor, Odunlade Adekola, popularly called Sunday Dagboru spoke with ENCOMIUM Weekly on how he started acting 10 years ago, his achievements in the industry and where he is headed.
Tell us how your journey into acting started?
I started about 10 years ago in Abeokuta, Ogun State and since then till now, God has been on my side.
What took you into acting?
I think I have interest in acting, that was why I joined the industry and God has been the one helping me till now.
Did you read anything pertaining to acting?
Not at all. I did not read anything pertaining to acting. I just have passion for acting and I don’t have any cause to regret. But since then till date, I give all glory to God because He has been helping me.
Can you tell us about your success so far?
I am still pushing it and praying to God to be successful. I can’t really say now that I am successful in the industry.
You are one of the sought after actor, how do you feel?
I can’t believe that but I know I’m an actor.
What character do you like playing?
I can play any character. I can act any script that comes my way because that is what makes me an actor.
Why did you decide to move into the comedy area?
I didn’t drag myself into comedy. I act any script that comes my way. I don’t care if it is comedy or not, I just act according to the script.
What has acting done for you?
A lot of things.
Is there anything acting has not done for you?
I can’t really say. Its only God that can do everything, profession can only make you popular.
Before you take a script, what are the things you look out for?
I take the script and read it very well. If it is a script I can act, I will do it. If not, I will drop it.
Which movie would you consider most challenging?
All my movies are challenging.
Are there actors or actresses you like acting with?
I love acting with good actors and actresses.
Who is your favourite actor?
I don’t have anyone, they are all my friends.
What is your role in the movie Taiwo Aromokun premiered last Sunday?
I directed the movie and I am also the lead actor.
What are the challenges faced when directing the movie?
Normal challenges on location. Keep to time and people to get on set early and at the end of the day, we thank God.
Where is Nollywood presently especially the Yoruba genre?
It is going higher if not for piracy. Piracy is killing our industry.
What are you doing about it?
It is only government that can help us, there is nothing we can do.
