Ronke Oshodi-Oke on joys of motherhood, ‘I am happy and fulfilled’

ON Friday, March 8, 2013, God put smiles on the faces of star actress Ronke Ojo-Anthony better addressed as Ronke Oshodi-Oke and her better half, Gbolahan Anthony, a.k.a Sir White as their efforts of about five years were blessed with a bouncing baby boy.  The new child was born in the United States of America, and was christened Richmond Oluwadarasimi Olamilekan Anthony.

ENCOMIUM Weekly had an exclusive interview with the gap-toothed and pretty thespian on this and other issues shortly after her arrival from the US.  She exploded in joy, saying, “I am now fulfilled and specially joyous.”

Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby, though belated.

Thanks so much.  God bless you.

How does it feel that your marriage to Gbolahan Anthony has finally yielded the utmost desire of your heart, now that you’re blessed with a baby boy?

First, I thank God and give Him the glory and adoration for blessing me with a baby boy. He is a very wonderful God.  Now, I am fulfilled.

You have been in the marriage for quite a number of years, waiting on the Lord for the fruit of the womb, how would you describe the experience?

My dear brother, it wasn’t easy but I thank God for seeing me through by crowning my effort.  It was indeed a great experience, but God has turned everything to a success story.  I will forever be grateful to Him

Throughout the trying period, how were your husband’s family members handling the situation?  Were they

...with her baby
…with her baby

not feeling bad that you did not give their son a baby?

They are human beings.  So, they’re expected to behave and feel worried.  They also felt concerned and touched.  But at a point, they were like fed up with the situation. But my husband remained courageous. He believed that God would do it. He remained firm on his feet and stood by me all through.  He is a very wonderful husband.  I really appreciate his support, care and love.

How is the family feeling now about the good development?

The whole family is happy now.  We are all rejoicing. It’s a great celebration for everybody that God has finally answered our prayers.

Although, this is your second child, how do you feel having your first baby for Anthony?

I am sincerely happy and excited. It’s a thing of joy.  It makes me feel real good and cool.  This is the moment we have been waiting for.  Although, it’s very challenging, I am really happy for the joy and smiles it has brought into the family.  However, it’s like starting afresh because my first child was born about 10 years ago, which is very long.  The traumatic experience was like having a first baby.  But all the same, it’s a thing that calls for celebration.  Glory be to God.

How does your husband feel now?

How else do you expect him to feel?  Of course, he feels so good and cool.  He is enjoying it.  He is also very glad about it because this is the first issue we have together.  He also has a child before we got married.

When and where was your new baby born?

The baby was delivered in the United States of America on Thursday, March 8, 2013, and christening was here in Nigeria by both families.  But I staged mine in the US.

Why did it take you that long before returning to Nigeria?

I had to secure all the necessary documents, which took sometime.

How would you describe your stay in the US?

It was really interesting.  I really enjoyed it. I had a good time in the US.  Many thanks to my promoters, Mr. and Mrs. Olaniyan of Afro Heritage Entertainment, for all their support and encouragement throughout the time I spent there.  I am so grateful to them, may God continue to bless and protect them and their family.

Tell us your new baby’s names.

He was named Richmond Oluwadarasimi Olamilekan Anthony.

After this, how many more do you wish to have for your husband?

As many as possible (laughs).  Anyway, it all depends on God.

Has your career not been affected since you’ve not being around all this while?

It has not been really affected.  I am still me, Ronke Oshodi Oke.  There are sometimes you don’t have to work all the time.  One needs to attend to certain other issues outside career.  But now, I am back fully for business.  But the most important thing is that I had achieved my aim, God has crowned my effort and I am very happy about it.

What did you miss about the industry throughout the time you’re in America?

I missed my people, my colleagues and fans and all that.  But I had no choice, I just had to do the right thing at the right time.  The most important thing I went to the US for was to deliver my baby, which was a success.  Now, I am back, I am catching my fun already, I thank God for everything.
