CLASSICS: Sammie Okposo, Ozioma Mkparu tie the knot

  • Details of their Sat. June 26, 2010 traditional wedding

GIFTED gospel act, Sammie Okposo, has finally found his missing ribs. She is Ozioma Mkparu.  And they tied the knot traditionally on Saturday, June 26, 2010, in Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra State.

Held at the ancestral home of the Mkparus, the marriage which was consummated according to Igbo customs and tradition was witnessed by only the couple’s families and close friends.

It kicked off in the afternoon and ended in the evening.  It officially commenced with the traditional wine-carrying where the bride goes searching for her would-be husband and on finding him, presents him to her people for blessings and the consummation of the union.

Okposo had earlier settled the bride price and other Igba Nkwu (traditional marriage) demands.  Kene Mkparu, formerly of Odeon Cinemas in the United Kingdom, stood in for their late father, while movie maker, Kingsley Ogoro, represented the groom’s kinsmen.

Strictly a family affair, the traditional wedding was sealed amidst tight security.  This, however, did not limit the fun that dominated the day.  There was also traditional music and a live band that kept the celebrants and their guests on their feet all through the event.

Ozioma Mkparu is based in the UK, while Sammie Okposo is a leading Nigerian artist.  He is also a Glo ambassador.  From Isoko, Delta State, the Wellu Wellu crooner and his heartthrob would formalize their union the Christian way, on Thursday, July 1, 2010.  The venue is Lagoon Restaurant, on Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, Lagos.

A prolific composer and passionate crooner, ladies’ man and charmer, Sammie, in his prime, was not only one of the Nigeria’s hottest bachelors, he also had so many female celebrities eating from his palms.  And topping the chart then were Janet Fateye, a one-time Miss Nigeria; Kate Henshaw, a star actress; Stella Damasus, another star actress and Gloria Ibru, the daughter of billionaire business mogul, Olorogun Michael Ibru, who has a daughter (Alula) for him.
