CLASSICS: Upcoming fashion designer Ayo Naledi on where she’s headed

AYO Agunbiade, the brain behind Naledi Clothing has been on the fashion scene for some time now.  She spoke with ENCOMIUM Weekly on how she started the fashion business and where she sees herself in years to come.

_DSC0120bFor those reading about you for the first time, who is Ayo Naledi?

My name is Ayo Agunbiade, I am 23 years old and the first of three children.  I graduated from Covenant University in 2008 with a B.Sc in Banking and Finance. I am a lover of God, fashion, designing, good food and thriller novels.

When did you go into the fashion business?

I have always been gifted with the pencil.  I started drawing when I was little. But I really started designing clothes when I was in the university. I designed outfits for my friends for class dinners and events.  I got into the fashion business officially in April 2011.

What is your unique selling point?

My unique selling point is the ability to create a fine blend of culture and style in every of my designs and making sure they are affordable for the average individual.

There are a lot of people in the fashion business, how have you been able to breakthrough?

The fashion industry is now highly competitive. My mother is one strong determined woman.  Her constant encouragement has helped me a lot.  I came to realize that it’s not about the number of players in the game, it is about how well you can play the game. I have always believed that with God all things are possible.

Do you make only female clothes?

Yes, Ayo Naledi is a female brand.

How affordable are Ayo Naledi’s wears?

My pieces are very affordable. I don’t believe you have to break a bank to be fashionable.

Are you working on anything new for your collection?

Yes, I am currently working on a jewelry line.

Where do you see Naledi in five years?

In five years I hope to see at least one female in every household having at least one of Naledi’s pieces.
