‘We would soon drag them to court’- POLICE

Five days after arrest, controversial clergy, Pastor Ofuche Ukoha, popularly known as Sign Fireman, is still being detained by the police over alleged murder of a 12 year old virgin.

In an exclusive chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Friday, January 10, 2014, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed to us that the celebrity pastor is still in their custody alongside his alleged accomplice, 18 year old Ikechukwu Lucky. And that they would be charged to court soon after they conclude their investigations.

Sign-Fireman1“Yes, I can tell you authoritatively that the pastor and Ikechukwu are still in our custody. And they are going to be charged for conspiracy and murder. The reason the pastor was not paraded along with the boy was that we got him arrested that same Tuesday, January 7, 2014, but have not obtained any statement from him”.

18 year old Ikechukwu Lucky, who attends Perfect Christianity Ministry, Sign Fireman’s church at Aguda, Surulere axis of Lagos, allegedly strangled the girl to obtain her faeces for ritual purposes. He admitted that he had wanted to become rich like his peers and had approached his pastor personally after years in the church without breakthrough.

He alleged that Fireman told him the way forward in achieving his financial breakthrough was to get him the faeces of a virgin. Ikechukwu claimed he promised to give him N100,000 if he achieved the task.

The suspect, an indigene of Onitsha in Anambra, who is currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba said, “I attend a popular church around Ketu Street, Aguda but I live with my parents in Badagry. I just finished secondary school and I have been very broke. So, I approached the pastor for money but he told me that I should strangulate a little girl.

“He said when strangulating the girl, she would pass out faeces. The pastor said I should obtain the faeces and bring it to him. He said if I could do this, he would give me N100,000.

“So, on December 30, 2013, I approached a young girl, Bose Ogoja. Her mother sells food in Badagry and I usually patronized them, so she trusted me. I told the girl that I wanted to show her something and that she should follow me. So, I took her to an abandoned NITEL building and locked the door.

“I pressed her neck tightly and she passed out faeces. I was, however, not able to get the faeces because I was caught before I could escape.”

However, there was a twist in the ensuing controversy when the mother of the 18-year-old boy, Esa Egbo, confessed  in her interview with Vanguard newspaper on Thursday, January 9, 2014, that her son had been arrested four times for attempting to rape little girls between the ages of 10 and 15 years by the police in Badagry Division.

Mrs. Egbo also said she and her family are members of Perfect Christianity Mission in Surulere area of Lagos, where Dr. Ofuche Ukoha (aka Sign Fireman) is the General Overseer, adding that her son does not know or have any access to the cleric, whom he claimed sent him to kill the girl. She explained that two years ago, a neighbour laid a curse on her son and after then he started behaving strangely, thereby attempted to rape little children whenever he saw them.

According to her, “He started two years ago to molest girls in attempt to rape them. It is not an ordinary thing. Some people are very good in hurting other people’s children. So for that reason I am suspecting that. He has been staying with me from birth and just two years ago when he was 16, a man who lives close to us laid a curse on him.

“What happened was that we have a well in our compound and Ikechukwu and one of the man’s daughters were at the well fetching water and they had a quarrel. Ikechuwu beat up the girl and when the man returned he brought out a belt to whip Ike and I prevented him. He started boasting that he was going to make Ike useless and miserable. I thought he was joking but after that Ikechuwu started behaving funny.

“Whenever he went out during the day and saw a little girl he would grip her and attempt to rape her and the girl would scream alerting people around. They would arrest and beat him up before handing him over to the police at Badagry police station.

“On lucky days, he would escape and flee the area. He has been arrested four times over the same offence and I am the one who always bailed him. In April last year, he made me lose over N25,000 I paid as WAEC exam fee. On the day he was supposed to start the exam, he left home with his school uniform and didn’t return until after two weeks. When he came back he told me that the demon came over him on his way to school and he gripped a girl and when the girl screamed he managed to escape so he decided to run away from home.

“I and the father went to beg the people whose child he molested and I decided to follow him to school throughout his NECO examinations. “The last one before this occurred on December 10, 2013, at Imeke. He was arrested and charged to court and remanded in Badagry Prison. I got a lawyer who stood for him before he was granted bail. “While these things were happening, I told our branch pastor at Badagry about it but I didn’t tell our GO.

“Whenever he sees a little girl he would grip her and when she screams he would return to himself. He does not do it at night, it’s always during the day.

“On this particular case, he told me that he was going to work at a place where a building was demolished by government opposite the French Village in Badagry. They are actually constructing a factory at that place and he used to help them carry bags of cement for which they paid him some stipends at the end of the day.

“He failed to return home that day and I and his father went out to look for him at his place of work and people around told us that they didn’t see him. The next day, we didn’t see him, so, by Wednesday, we decided to go to the police station at Badagry. “A police woman told us that we should go to the SCID to look for him. I asked her what was his offence and she refused to tell me, rather she said when I get to the SCID that I would know what was my son’s offence.

“The next day I and my husband went to the SCID and when I saw my son he told me that there was a woman who sells food close to where he used to work and the woman had a daughter. He said on that day he was eating at the woman’s shop when he saw the girl passing and all of a sudden something came over him and he stood up and followed the girl and gripped her so tight and the girl screamed and died after which he regained consciousness.

“He attempted to run, but someone at a building close by who saw all what happened apprehended him. He used to tell me that he was not misbehaving consciously but that something used to come over him and I have told our branch pastor about it and he prayed for him.

“My son didn’t accuse the GO. I don’t have the GO’s phone number and that of my son. My son didn’t beg the GO for money and even our branch pastor he has never gone to beg for money. Ikechukwu was the most gentle of all my children but this demon destroyed his life.”

It will be recalled that Pastor Ofuche Ukoha, also known as Sign Fireman, was accused of being fake by late Nollywood actor, Enebeli Elebuwa, who went to his church for a miracle but got double of his sickness after leaving the church. Fireman was also said to only drive yellow cars, and has many of them, mostly SUVs in his garage. He is also the man who flooded the streets of Surulere one time with pictures of single hot ladies in posters advertising his church with the caption, ‘All the hot girls in Lagos attend Pastor Fireman’s church’. He got married to his 22 year old sweetheart in April 2013.

News of Pastor Sign Fireman’s release from police custody reached us on Sunday, January 12, 2014. We gathered that he was granted police bail on Saturday, January 11, 2014, in the evening…
