Controversy over Ooni’s stool deepens – As another aspirant challenges kingmakers, ‘it’s unnecessary diversion’ – Giesi

One of the strong contenders for the vacant stool of Ooni of Ife, the Larooka of Wanikin, Oba Adewale Ojutalayo has maintained that the ongoing legal action by some princes challenging the decision of Osun state government and Ife kingmakers to limit aspirants to the revered throne to only Giesi Ruling House will only end in futility.

He stressed further that all the princes jostling for the exalted throne outside Giesi royal family are not relevant at the moment. Not only that, they are also causing unnecessary diversion. He therefore enjoined the good people of Ife kingdom to remain calm and prayerful as the issue will soon be resolved in favour of Giesi, the ruling whose turn it is to produce the next Ooni.

“I have told you earlier, it’s not unusual to see some princes protesting the selection process of the new Ooni of Ife. But there is a tradition when it comes to that and nothing can supersede the tradition.

“All the arguments and legal battle by some princes from other ruling houses are just to cause unnecessary diversion. They are just wasting their time by challenging the government and kingmakers in court over selection procedure. The government and kingmakers have all the valid documents at their disposal. So, all their arguments against the choice of Giesi are needless and would be futile at the end of the day.

“And I can assure you, at the end of it all, we will celebrate together because we’re all brothers and we all love one another.”

Asked to react on the claim of Prince Adesomi Adenrele of Osinkola lineage that all the existing royal families have equal right to the ascendancy of the Ooni’s throne, and should be invited to a roundtable to decide the successor of late Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Olubuse 2, he said, “Prince Adenrele you’re talking about is from a unit of Osinkola family that produced Oba Adesoji Aderemi of blessed memory. So, why must it be the turn of Osinkola again to produce the next Ooni? Just like I said, he is also trying to be relevant.”

On how long it will take the court to resolve the matter, he reacted, “I am not the judge nor a lawyer. I am just an observer at the moment. So, it will be difficult for me to tell you how soon the case will be settled. All I know is that, at the end of it all, a new Ooni will surely emerge, and we shall all celebrate.

“My advice is that all the sons and daughters of Ife kingdom, home and abroad should just remain calm and prayerful. By the grace of God, there will be peace in the land at the end of it all”
