Corruption, fraudulent practices bane of national development – Lagos Auditor-General

 Lagos State Auditor-General for Local Governments, Mr. Musibau Jimoh has stated that corruption and fraudulent practices in the Country must be eradicated in order to facilitate National growth and development.

Jimoh made the declaration during the 4th edition of the Annual Retreat for Local Governments Auditors in the State employ held in Ikeja recently.

He noted that high level of corruption and fraudulent practices could render any society defenceless, prevent foreign investment inflow and subject majority of the citizenry to abject poverty while making a few richer.

The Auditor-General enjoined the auditors to stand by the principle of integrity, transparency, accountability, professionalism and entrench best practices in their audit mandate in order to eradicate corruption and fraud in all its facets of existence.

He reminded participants that their onerous responsibility is to detect and prevent the occurrence of fraud and irregularities in the administration of government, saying that, “An Auditor is expected to plan and conduct his work in such a professional manner that in the course of the job, audit fraud and irregularities in the system will be detected, because Audit is a value-adding service to the community.”

Jimoh also implored the Auditors to ensure that public funds are judiciously and efficiently utilised and proper account rendered in accordance with extant laws and regulations.
