Two female victims of human trafficking were tricked into working as prostitutes by a couple who frightened them with voodoo rituals, Cardiff crown court in Wales has heard.
Jurors were told that the victims – aged 23 and 29 – were forced to eat snails and snakes as part of a ritual ceremony staged by Lizzy Idahosa and Jackson Omoruyi, who were arrested at their home in Brockley, south London.
Prosecutor, Caroline Rees, said: “The ritual was used to terrify both women into doing what was demanded of them. They genuinely believed the powers would work”.
