Court removes Fintiri, orders Ngilari’s swearing-in

A Federal High Court, Abuja, has today (OCTOBER 8, 2014) ordered the immediate swearing in of former deputy governor of Adamawa state, Mr. Bala Ngilari, as the substantive governor of the state.

The court also ruled that the substantive Speaker of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Umar Fintiri, should vacate office as the acting governor of the state.

Justice Ademola Adeniyi ruled that the alleged resignation of Ngilari on July 14, 2014 was invalid, null and void as it breached the provisions of sections 306(1), (2) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution because it was addressed to the Speaker and acted upon by the House of Assembly.

Due to this new ruling, the bye-election fixed for this Saturday, will no longer hold.
