Crisis rocks 2Face Idibia’s Rumors Night Club!

– As sacked workers protest non-payment of salary

Lagos-20140125-01738Things are no longer at ease at 2Face Idibia’s newly opened Rumors Night Club located at 1st Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos, as some sacked staffers are protesting non-payment of salary.

ENCOMIUM Weekly’s findings revealed that the on-going internal wrangling has affected the club’s services to its esteemed clients and revelers who thronged the place on a daily basis.

In less than a month of opening, the management has replaced workers at the bar, cleaning, security posts, with allegations from the affected staffers that they were used and dumped, without payment of agreed salary.

Lagos-20140125-01740Although, the development has been on for days, ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered that the multiple awards winning singer, 2Face, and his partner, Dotun Omotoye, are yet to be briefed.

Some of the embittered staffers, who spoke to us under the condition of anonymity, said, “It’s the Manager of the club, Mr. Temidayo that’s mal-treating us, not Mr. Dotun Omotoye (2Face’s partner), and we are sure he’s not aware of what is happening here right now. Some of our friends, who still work with the club, have, however, promised to call us whenever Mr. Dotun is around, and we believe the matter will be sorted out. That’s why we don’t want it published.”

After several persuasions, one of them, a security man, who identified himself as Ahmed, agreed to speak with us.

According to him, “He (Mr. Temidayo) called me and said my service is no more needed. For what? Because somebody disconnected AC wire from the socket, and inserted his universal charger! When he saw it, he asked me who did it, and I replied I didn’t know. The next thing he said was that I’m sacked!

“Although that’s not the main reason he sacked me, it’s between me and him. But, if I must go, I should be paid my salary. I am supposed to receive N30,000, but now he said he would only pay N17,000. Unfortunately, he only gave me N5,000 today (Saturday, January 25) and asked me to go, after working day and night without a shift as agreed initially.”

We didn’t succeed in speaking with the Manager, Mr. Temidayo when we visited the club, which is currently undergoing construction, on Saturday, January 25, 2014. The bearded manager told one of his officials to tell us no one could see him, even when he was obviously sighted, dressed in black polo and a pair of shorts.

We sent his staff to him for the second time, with our complimentary card, a gesture he turned down, insisting he’s not ready to talk to anybody.

Club Rumors was formally opened on the eve of New Year, 2014 amidst pomp and ceremony. The fun-spot, an extension of Rumors Club at Oduduwa Way, Ikeja, GRA, Lagos, reportedly gulped over N250 million, with plans to open more branches across Nigeria.

The building which has a night club, we reliably gathered, opens for fun-lovers from 10pm, while the event centre, big marquee, is currently under construction, will be completed by February 2014 ending. The edifice has a staff room and administrative office, with a spacious car park.

We also gathered that it took the singer three-to-four years to complete the structure. The place was formally called Equatorial Club. It was shut-down following low patronage, before it was bought by the duo of Dotun and 2Face, who had been yearning to open an extension of Rumors Club in Festac town. The building was demolished and rebuilt to the present taste.
